SORRY IN ADVANCE FOR THE NOVEL

I recently bought my explorer and went from the Honda world to the Ford world. I LOVE THE CAR, but i bought it VERY cheap and I have discovered some problems with the car. I am learning about cars as I go with this so I am asking for help. I recently replaced the front hub assemblies, and the upper control arms and ball joints because they needed to be replaced BAD. There are a couple of other issues I am seeking some help with.

There is some noise coming from the rear end, I am planning on jacking it up sometime tomorrow to shake the tires and test the wheel bearings, but i have had a few people tell me the rear ends in the 02's are not that great. Can you tell me what some symptoms of the rear end going out could be?

I also have some issues with the transmission. the "O/D OFF" light will sometimes come on and start blinking but if i turn the car off it resets. when the light is blinking the car still goes in and out of overdrive. when running around 75 on the highway the RPM's will jump from about 2000 (which seems normal) to about 3000+ sometimes the light starts flashing when thiss happens and sometimes not. It has also started shifting hard and sometimes it doesnt have the get up it usually does. A mechanic told me he thought it was the solenoid could this be true?

I am going to go have the codes pulled tomorrow and I will post what codes it shows. Thanks in advance for the help

Welcome to this forum! I've moved your thread into the transmissions, transfer cases, and differentials section. There is a TSB on the rear end noise. As for the transmission, find out what the code numbers are before you replace any parts.
