I have a set of Pioneer TS-A6959 6"x9" 160w max.. does anyone know if I can use these in my 2002 XLT? thanks

u can make them fit, i don't think they are the right size though

so will i need to do any mods? or will i just have to force it in? will my stock system have any problem with these speakers?

You will want to concern yourself with a few different things. First, how deep is the 6x9? If it is more than 3" deep, you will not be able to use them. The window track is directly behind the speaker magnet.

The second thing you will need to worry about, is the perforations in the factory speaker grill. They are perforated for a 4"x6" opening. That means that nearly half of your speaker will be shrouded. Kinda like breathing through a drinking straw. You would do well to drill out the holes that LOOK like they are perforated all the way through, but are not.

And, last, you have to be able to get the door card back in place. I have precious little clearance for a 6 1/2" speaker. I really doubt that you will get it to work. Also, you will have to cut the door steel to make it fit. The factory opening is 6"x8", not 6x9. And, finally, the door steel flexes so much, that you will need to brace it. The more midbass you drive into the door, the more it will need braced. Here's a pic...
