2002 Explorer XLS
I have a 2002 Ford Explorer with about 47k miles. this is a manual. When i put the car into drive and start going down the road, you can hear a ticking noise and a roaring noise. its very noisy. you cant really hear it when you have the gas pressed but if you let up its very noticeable. i'm not sure if this is normal but i would think not. and to add to it, i think the tires are noisy tires as well. but there is definately some serious noise and ticking from the rear. any help would be very appreciated.

thanks
jason

check the rear brakes. coast while hearing noise lightly tap the brake and see if it goes away.

Try checking the rear wheel bearings. I have an 02 and had noise in the
rear as you described and had the ford dealer replaced my rear wheel bearings and also rebuilt my rear. Ford has a very bad problem with wheel bearings on 3gen. explorers. I had about 55K when the work was done.

was that work covered on your warranty? if not how much was it?

Work was covered under my warranty when i bought my o2 used. Also brother-in-law
is a ford mechanic which helped a lot.

2001 explorer rear body to frame rubber bushing howw to remove

Well, it could be two separate issues.

The ticking can be the emergency brake pads that are seemingly designed to become unbonded.

The roaring sounds like bearings as it is less apparent under load.
