I just replaced both front hub assemblies on my wife's 2002 XLT 4WD - the units were $212 each after AAA discount at NAPA.

I didn't realize until tonight that the new assemblies came with 3 new bolts (hidden under paper underneath the new hubs in the boxes). These new bolts came with some sort of yellow threadlocker liquid on them.

I had re-used the old bolts and put some Loctite threadlocker (red) on them before tightening.

Should I go back through and replace the old bolts? Or am I being overly concerned?

I also re-used the hub nut with the Loctite red as well.

Any comments/advice appreciated!!

My guess is the reason they give you new ones is for one of two things. Some people would not be smart like you and add thread lock so they inlcude bolts with thread lock. Or, maybe there have been instances of these bolts breaking off and they add new ones for that situation. With thread lock I think you will fine.

Thanks for the reply.... although given that I didn't find the new bolts in the box until after I had installed the new units, I'm not sure how smart I really was...... :-)

I think I'll be OK.... after all it's the wife's car.... ;-)

Actually some of the bolts in newr vehicles are designed to stretch when initially torqued. So if those bolts are those type then it is required to replace them every time they are removed.
