My cruise control stopped working about 1 year ago. I can live without it unless there are some inexpensive remedies. It does absolutely nothing. No light indicator when pusing the on switch on the steering wheel. Sometimes if you push the set button, the indicator light will come on for a .05sec and go out. Any ideas would be helpful

let me be more specific: The on/off buttons seem to turn the cruise on and off but there is no light to indicate that.then when you push the set button the light only stays on for .05 sec. However, sometimes when you hit the set button the indicator light stays on but there is no set speed locked in. Take your foot of the gas pedal and the vehicle slows down

The two cheep problems to check are a vaccum leak or a bad cruise control computer. If no leak can be found, its probably a bad box. I would think a salvage yard would be pretty cheep on one.

see if you have a brake pressure switch, $20, and its sit on the master cylinder switch 2 wires coming out of it, but that usually trips the ABS fault light . . . .i'm not sure but if you don't then you might have a brake switch on the brake pedal somewhere, just a low cost guess. . .You should get codes pulled which usually tells you exactly what failed, but that may cost . . .

Check cable connector at servo motor. it may have just popped out like mine did and I had the same exact problem. I would set it but it would just keep decellerating. Put it back in and turned clockwise to lock it in position and works like a charm again. Didn't realize how much i love my CC till it was out for a few days LOL.

you might want to check with your ford dealer on this im not a mechanic but i do know there is a recall on the speed sensor.

I keep getting this recall notice for my 02 that says the switch on the brake master might leak and I will go up in flames. Some sort of emergency switch for the cruise control. I can tell you it didn't seem to work when I lost my brake light power. Pressing on my brakes just made the engine rev faster! Anyway, Ford thinks enough of these are failing that it is worth a look there. If that switch is bad it will be free.
