2003 Mercury Mountaineer
In June, I had the misfortune of dozing off while driving my 2003 Mountaineer, and I smashed into a light pole with right front corner of my truck. I crunched the the whole right front corner: hood, fender, and sub-body. I bent the lower control arm, wasted the wheel/tire, and it broke the support for the front axle. I was so mad that I didn't have collision coverage, but I was dumb in thinking, "I've never caused an accident..." I ultimately decided to repair the truck, since KBB value was $5000+ (undamaged), but the junkyards only wanted to give me $350 as scrap. The repairs are still in progress, but here are some pics showing the progress on Dropbox. I'll update it as I go:

Collision update

Thanks. Over the weekend I changed all my fluids and brakes (they were due), replaced the passenger front wheel hub for good measure, and replaced the cracked front axle with one from the boneyard. This weekend I've got to start replacing the front end header, bumper, headlights, etc. I bought aftermarket parts from Carparts.com for that. It seems like bumpers, headlights, mirrors, etc.--the common collision damaged parts--go very quickly at the junkyard. I've often dealt with Rock Auto but, although their prices were better than Carparts.com, Rock's shipping charges were way too high.

I had a similar accident

I bought the whole front of a car from a recycler (www.car-part.com). It was the front of the car, axle, radiator, no engine, and was cut off at the dashboard. When done I sold the remaining as scrap.

Good luck to you. Try www.car-part.com when you need parts. I had a trailer so I was able to haul the parts needed.

It's Done!

Finally got my Mountaineer together. Here's a link to Dropbox for pics:

The pics don't show that I also replaced the front axle, PS wheel hub, brakes, and lower control arm. The only thing left for me to do is replace front tires and get a much needed alignment. FYI, the new bumper is black because it's a primed, aftermarket replacement. I'm not too worried about paint right now.

Looks good (y)
