1992 Mazda Navajo Collision repair

My dad was involved in a accident last month in his 1992 Mazda Navajo. He walked away from the accident with out a scratch, though his poor Navajo did not fair as well.. Keep in mind this Navajo would be totaled. The value a body shop would charge to do this repair would be in the $1000s. I've estimated this to be about $800-$900 for me to repair.

So my good friend Justin, towed the Navajo to me in Austin, tx where I will do all the body work and put this Navajo back to like new condition.

There was steering damage, and core support damage/passenger side inner fender damage.

Lucky for me I found this at the local wrench a part.

And here we are as of now.

Based on my other projects and my own full time job I plan to have the Navajo completed in June. Only part I am lacking now is a passenger fender. I will also paint the hood both fenders and both doors.

Looks great. I am still on the hunt for navajo front end for my 1994 Explorer :)

For sure keep us updated, I always enjoy a threads like these, my favorite part is the before and after photos.

Brian,
I was surprised I found a front end I thought I was going to have to convert to explorer stuff. Down side is I am sending off the Driver side headlamp for restoration. I can not find a good one any where. I did get lucky I found a new old stock passenger side that had been on the shelf since 2004. Also did you know the motor in this 92 Navajo is the motor from your old white 92.

Froader, Ill be painting the front end and the two doors. The rest of the body will get buffed out.

Nice find on the parts and good luck with the project , after I hit a deer doing 80-90 the mph gauge was maxed , i had to swap to explorer parts as there is a lack of navajo parts in my area , Def glad to hear your pops walked away unharmed , Check back in soon on the progress

Can I critique your work as you go along ;) :)

Aww, Kermit looks so good! Kris, good luck on the repairs and, oh wait, I might be helping you out more than you think on this ;-) awesome find on those navajo parts though!!

I had no idea my motor was in that. That was a great running motor. Glad to see she is still going strong.

yeah this poor navajo has been through a lot but i keep saving it ...

I see a bent hood hinge on the green / silver truck.

Possibly....

I would be more than glad to help out in any way you need.

The hood wasn't bolted on in that pic I needed to paint the wiper cowl before I installed the correct color hood it was just sitting there to keep the rain out

gotcha'

Yep I seen those if you look at the purchase history on that eBay auction you will see I have purchased two already :-)

Part of the collision repair was the steering was damaged in the accident. From what I could tell the bumper was forced into the passenger wheel bending the tie rod and the drag link. Today I replaced these parts.

The car was not totaled by the insurance company. This Navajo has a clear title. All the electrical is not damaged, all the lights and pig tails are in great shape. I have all the parts to repair purchased already at $400 The labor is free, because I am doing the work. All I have left to purchase is paint materials, and changing out one of the wheels that got damaged. Then its to the alignment shop. It will not be over $800-900 for total repair.
