2003 Explorer 4.0 2wd shutter stutter around 40MPH

Our 2003 SOHC 4.0 2wd is shuttering/stuttering intermittently around 40 MPH; usually uphill or about 4th gear at acceleration. I have done a tune up (plugs, wires, fuel filter, PCV), and I replaced the catalytic converters last year.

I had the same issue with my 1999 explorer several years ago and it was a DPFE sensor that was causing the "bump". Perhaps there is a similar emission control on the 03?

Torque Converter gone bad

Just had a diagnosis performed and I am told that my transmission's torque converter is bad.

I am thinking of just going with a Ford remanufactured transmission for around 2400.

Any thoughts you all?
