- 2003 Explorer XLT 4.6l
Thanks for the add. I have an 03 Explorer xlt 4.6l with 250,000. Bought 2 years ago and have had no serious problems since. Last wednesday, let in run in the morning for 20 minutes (it was 30 below outside) hopped in it, it was running fine, (no ticks no knocking) made it about a quarter mile and it suddenly died, again it wasn't violent, no knocking or anything, it was like I just turned the key off. When I try to start it, it just clicks. The starter has shown no signs of wear, and the battery is an optima yellow top that is pumping out the right volts, only been in the rig for a month at most.
Prior to this incident over the last few months, the oil pressure gauge would drop to 0 randomly after the vehicle had been being driven for at least a couple hours. Never when the motor was cold and never when running errands or anything. When the gauge would drop, it would still run just fine. Looked at a forum and some people said the gauge is faulty so I went with that and ignored it as it would still run fine. It has been sitting since. Got it in my heated garage a couple nights ago.
Hope it didn't blow up. Any thoughts?
