My Ranger died & won't start.

Was driving my 99 Ranger when it started acting like it was fighting for power or air, no engine light, until i let off the gas and it died then it would not restart. Also the thermostat was jumping up and down right before i let off the gas. The truck would not get over 60 while i was trying to drive it. What could it be????????

the check eng does now, but not while i was driving it. yes the fuel pump does prime when i turn the key.

Have you noticed a squeaking sound coming from the
engine recently?
