Hello and Thanks for your time. My daughter has a 2003 4x4 explorer 100.000kms.she is experience a clunking noise if she slows down to a red light then accelerates if the light turns green or an incline only if she has to accelerate fast, but if she she pulls over and stops, when she can, then pulls away its gone. Any one have any idea what this could be? Thanks in advance.

It's hard to state what the problem is based on the information you provided but I would first look to the rear end and the clutch packs. My 2003 Explorer started doing something similar a couple of years ago while I was returning from a trip to the east coast pulling a trailer. It was fine just moving down the highway but when I had to stop for gas it sounded and felt like I had a brake locking up. But it only did it when I was moving slow and then speeding up a little. Also, after it cooled down, it went away. It turned out to be the limited slip clutch pack in the rear end. I had mine rebuilt but you can try changing the fluid, adding the required friction reducer and then do alternating tight circles in a parking lot.

If it is the rear end, the good new is it's a lot less expensive to get fixed. A whole new rebuild for mine was $650 and I have about 30,000 miles on it. I have 136,000 total on my Explorer.
