Well I feel the same about rev'ing the engine but my son was the one who brought it to attention a few months ago, I thought there was something wrong as stated I had never come across anything like that with other earlier model Explorers.
I wish there had been some sort of rev limiter last winter when my son tried to get unstuck from a snow drift, if you preuse the transmisison section here, I just got the vehicle back on the road after my boy took out 1st and 2nd, fortunatly, the engine was alright which wasn't the case for the transmission!
My 16 year son had his last trip in the Sportrac, last summer he tried to "jump" a ditch between two parking lots (there was girls involved!!) and did $6,000 damage to it which was all undercarrage and front suspension replacement, the guys in the Ford body shop had never seen anything like it, the frame was so screwed up, they had to go out to other Sportracs on the lot and take measurements to put everything back in spec; they did a very good job, the front is in near perfect condition !
Ahh the poor boy is driving a 77 chevy pickup now, poor kid!! mind you he totaled a really nice 92 tbird last October and came out alive from that (head on wreck with 1 ton passenger van) with a busted femur and collar bone, the good thing was that he was wearing his seat belt.
