2003 XLT 4.6L V8 stutters when accelerating

Pull the #17 and #18 fuse from under the hood. That will stop the 4x4 from even working. If you have 4 new tires that are the same size, but two are a different brands, the tires more than likely will be different sizes. I had a shudder on take-off(when I was turning left or right) that was because the rear end. Changed the diff fluid and put in two tubes of friction modifier. Cured the problem.

my truck came with higher load rating on the rear tires

same size and brand as front ones but that can also cause AWD problems apparently

I bought my 2003 XLT a week ago, my first 4x4. It shudders if I use about half throttle from a stop or slow roll. It feels like it's rapidly losing and regaining traction. The dealer tells me that they put 4 new tires on it and the auto 4x4 has to get used to them. My BS detector was going off, but I'm not qualified to tell him he's wrong and why.

If these things are so sensitive to tire diameter, wouldn't small air pressure differences be a problem too?

Another useful thread. Its been raining non stop here and I notced every once in a while I would get this stutter, I was about to take it in but then I read here and realized it is just 4wd.

Well whaddaya know. I pulled the 17 and 18 fuses and it drives like a champ! (Except that I somehow killed my battery in the process, but after jumping it, she appears to be running fine).

Thanks for all of your suggestions and help. You guys rock!

Well.......I still had to jump it again this morning to get to work. All it does is click when I try to start it. It's weird, before I jump it, the headlights are bright and the horn is strong. Did I mess something else up in the process?

I think it's probably just a battery on it's last legs and a coinsidence it failed now. Is it the original equipment battery? You might want to get the alternator tested also.
