I needed two tires about a year and a half ago, and the new ones I bought for the rear were a different brand than the front tires. Even though the tires were the same size, the ride was always jerky because it kept trying to shift into 4WD. Kind of felt like a spark plug wasn't firing and it was only running on 7 cylinders. I removed the #17 and #18 4x4 fuses under the hood and the problem went away. Whenever I needed 4WD, I just put the fuses back in. There was no jerkiness in 4WD. I got new tires a few weeks ago. Even though I onlly needed two tires, I put four new ones on so that I wouldn't have to mess with the fuses anymore. That worked fine. The jerkiness went away. About a week later, I was loading some firewood at night with the headlights on to see and the battery went dead. Jumped it, no further problems. About a week later, got into the car and noticed the 4WD lo light being lit on the button. The 4WD lights on the dashboard will flash intermittently, but I can not get the vehicle to go into 4WD. Even though the low range light is on, the 4WD is not engaged. I have checked all of the fuses and they look good, what do I do next?? From reading other posts, I would guess its the 4WD control module. Is there anything else I need to check before I replace this, or is there any way to test the CM to see if it is dead or not??? Thanks in advance for any help!

I got mine to work with messing with the fuses like u did before it quit working. I was lucky I guess if that don't work you need a new cm.theses trucks are very aggravating!!

Is there any way to tell if the control module is bad without dropping the cash to get a new one??
