- 2004 Explorer Eddie Bauer
I have the 2004 Explorer (Eddie Bauer Edition) with the Audiophile CD-6 in-dash CD-changer. I am purchasing the Parrot CK3100 Hands-free Bluetooth Car Kit. The description of this aftermarket kit states that an ISO connector is required to integrate directly into the car's stereo. Based on what I have read, it seems that the CD-6 does not have an ISO connector, so I have been investigating wiring harnesses.
There are two ‘Hands-free Cell Phone Prep Harness’ parts available for the 2004 Explorer directly from Ford. The description for both parts read: “Hands-Free Cell Phone Prep Harness is an easy, plug-and-play way to integrate hands-free cell phone car kits to your vehicle. It provides the interface between your vehicle’s audio system and most hands-free car kits. Harness connects to vehicle’s radio and supplies the necessary wiring to attach most hands-free car kits available in the aftermarket. See your dealer for details. Fits 2004+ models.â€
Part Number: 4L2Z19A393AA (Connector Wiring Harness For Use With Molex Connect)
Part Number: 4L2Z19A393BA (Connector Wiring Harness For Use With Tyco Connect)
The only distinction between the two parts is the references to ‘Molex’ and ‘Tyco’ connectors. I’m not sure if this is in reference to the connector on the radio in the vehicle or the connector on the aftermarket hands-free kit. IS THIS HARNESS REQUIRED TO INSTALL HANDS-FREE?
The CD-6 unit has a hands-free button on the faceplate, and I would assume that I could just plug the Parrot unit directly into the back if I had the correct connector. However, no one in the Ford parts department can tell me if the above parts are necessary, or if there are harnesses available to connect my aftermarket hands-free unit.
Has anyone successfully installed this unit or a similar one? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
