I have a 2005 4X4 Explorer. When I engage the 4 wheel drive, or it engages because of slippage, it makes a metal to metal grinding sound, and pulls to the right. It has 23000 miles on it, and I have owed it since it was new. I took it into the dealer to have them look at it, at first they said it had an alignment problem. Put then they called and said that when I had a tire go bad at 15000 miles and replaced it with a new one, that the new tire was causing the adv-trac system to malfunction because it is larger size around then the other tires, and that I needed to replace the other three tires. I asked them about the alignment problem, and they said oh that was fine. I told them I will be coming to pick up my car. Please let me know what you think, is the dealer scaming or is that true???

Thanks

I don't know if tires with 23k on them are worn bad enough to through the advac off, but I know those with 50k wear on them will if you only replace two at a time.

The electronics on these cars are very sensitive. I replace all four at a time. Been there, done that.
