I had a head gasket failure due to overheating. Took care of the overheating problem. Warped heads. Got the heads resurfaced, valves lapped, new seals gaskets etc. I bought the camshaft alignment kit, and tried the passenger side first, but quickly discovered there is an issue.
There is a gap between the kit adapter and the cylinder head. The adapter insert only goes in the camshaft one way.
I tried rotating the camshaft 180 degrees, but then it's no longer flat. The camshaft wants to "rest" off kilter, not flat. I don't think this is right.
But, on the driver's side cam, the adapter kit sits level and perfectly flat.
Does anyone have any advice or help?
I watched a YouTube video where a guy says there are flat parts on a lobe on the cam, when at "rest" the lobe is flat, just seems "Upside down". To expose the other flat side on the driver's side the cam is pushing one or more valves down and doesn't "rest" flat if they makes sense. I can try to get more pictures if they are needed.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
