What TSB was it and could you post a picture of the bill so that it shows the recall statement please? You can use microsoft paint (part of all windows operating systems) to edit out your name, vin, and other personal information. Just leave the model number of the trans and the information of the vehicle. You may need to use a picture hosting site. Webshots is great and FREE.

Thanks and have a good one.

Wise Guy, what dealer did you have your update performed at? My dealer doesn't have a clue about how to fix the trans. Thanks in advance.:usa:

Not a problem, I'll do it as soon as I get back home. (working!!!)

Bojans and myself are both using Buss Ford on Route 31 in McHenry. About 1 mile or so before you get to Rte. 120. It will be on your left. The service writer I have been dealing with is Dave. Their # is 815-385-2000.

On my TSB, the model number for the transmission is 6R60 but on Ford's site, the 2008 models are sited to have the new 6R80 transmissions along with some 2007 models. SEE HERE

6R80 Livonia (Mich.) Transmission
2008 Ford Expedition
2008 Lincoln Navigator
2008 Ford Explorer
2008 Ford Explorer Sport Trac
2008 Mercury Mountaineer
2009 Ford F-150

Yet the Expedition is said to have the 6R75 and the Explorers to have the 6R60. Don't know if the 6R80 is just a higher capacity rated torque converter or a generic model number for all of them. My TSB did say 6R60, but I would think they are all the same except the torque converter.

Have a good one.

sorry

My mistake the bill actually says 'recal' not recall. Blonde moment!!!! lol

Mine just started to do this after 1400 miles. How do I know when the trans was built? I know the explorer was built after 11/28/07 and I am affraid when I bring it in they are going to say that I don't need the update.

Thanks

TSB worked for me

Just bought a used 2006. Found TSB 08-4-16 thanks to this forum. The dealer completed this procedure about 3 weeks ago. The rough 2-1 downshift went away just like the TSB promised. It still grabs first a little hard, especially during a rolling stop when you almost stop & get back on the throttle. So it's not the smoothest transmission I've ever had, but the TSB made it completely acceptable. Thanks to those that provided this information - saved me the headache of troubleshooting by trial and error & multiple trips to the dealer.

hoose - same impression of tranny here (also have 06 limited v8). Now if the gas mileage could improve... I really think it went down after I saw the stickers all over saying up to 10% ethanol in gas now.

Taking mine in tomorrow morning, hopefully it fixes the 2-1 downshift.

Any updates on this issue? Looks pretty common. Mine does it slightly still and the latest TSB was performed. Hmmm

I Sure am glad I saw this. I just bought a used '06 EB V8 4x4 with about 28,000 on the clock and the 'Bump' and 'Grab' are REALLY noticeable!

It is still under the the Bumper-to-Bumper 36,000 Mile Factory and I opted for the 100,000 mile extended warranty. I am going to take it to my dealer sometime this week, I hope they don't try and play dumb about the issue and say it's normal. I guess I should print out that TSB that Mike Up Posted and take it with me, huh? Is that still the Latest?

Yep, I checked with my dealer yesterday and that is still the latest.

Dropped my Eddie off at 7am this morning, I miss it already! I printed out the TSB and left it in the passenger seat :D . I sure hope they can, "Prove" that that IS the issue when they drive it.

Here we go... Just called and he said, "My Guy took a look at it and thinks it may need a _____ Cylenoid" I didnt understand what he said, but I thought, "Great, Repairs I didnt need!"

Man, Why can't they just do the REFLASH!! He says I can't trust everything I read on the internet... Hmmmm, Are you guys lying to me?! (sarcasm )

OK! I just got off the phone with the dealer, they told me they there is actually an issue with the Valve body inside the transmission that sticks causing the occasional jolt when taking off... makes sense. They said they will do the re-flash as well at my request. This repair is covered under warranty. He said if they just did the reflash, the problem could come back, thats why they wanted to give me the updated "Valve Body."

Great info here! I just picked up a 2007 Limited last weekend. It has just a hint of the 'bump' when coming to a stop at times. The 1 - 2 shift is also not as smooth as I would like at times. I'll have to get the TSB done soon to see how that improves things. My wife and I love the Explorer so far! Got a GREAT deal on it!

Dropped it off this morning to have the TSB applied and a few other misc things looked at. The service guy calls me up this afternoon and says that they did the TSB but it did not improve any of my transmission symptoms. He had is top "programming" guy working on it. Their "transmission specialist" is going to take a look at it first thing tomorrow.

Oh boy...here we go. Fingers crossed...

I got an Edge as a loaner, not a bad car. Quick as can be with the 3.5L in it. However, I'll take the Explorer over that thing any day of the week.
