2006 explorer radiator

For mine i have the 4.0 its also a 2006, but an XLS.

My radiator was leaking from the gasket on the bottom where the aluminum meets the plastic housing (I believe its a common place).

If you put additional straps to hold the radiator, Ford may see that as a modification - affect you down the road.

Took mine today to the dealer because I noticed my overflow container was empty and they basically came back and said, your Explorer is not driveable and you need a rental car.

Provided a rental and then stated the radiators are on backorder and it could be a few days to a couple of months before it comes in but they did put a "critical" status on my order for me.

Please let us know if you have the V6 or V8 so we can see if this is a trend in one or the other or both. Thanks!:)

I have the V6 and I am supposed to find out today how long the backorder will take.

I got lucky when i got mine. This was the ONLY one in stock around my house.

This would be an embarrasment to Ford if someone went to the media - remember the lawsuits with the EX's a few years ago with regards to tires overinflated ? You figure in the next year or so, most of these will be out of warranty - people will be in for surprises. Guess what, my left back power window does not go down with either door switch. Should I call Ford again ?

Midiout...

Funny you say that i already replaced TWO window motors in that same window. Luckily i still had the warranty for those, and they have been working since the last one put in.

Alright, here's the deal. They had my Ex for a week to the day and here's what my work order states.
The tech filled the coolant and noticed a leak out of the bottom gasket and the radiator was corroded (sp?). Replaced all hoses, radiator, 2 seals and refilled coolant. Drove for 15 miles at various speeds, returned, cooland bucket remained at normal level.
Not sure why the corrosion occured so quickly, I only have 26k on it.

2006 Ford Explorer Radiator

My 2006 Ford Explorer has been leaking since the day I purchased it 03/29/2008. The dealer finally found the leak & told me that it will take two weeks to get a radiator & that there are 2,400 radiators on back order. It looks like I am not the only one having this problem. I contatcted Ford at (800) 241-3673 to request a recall to have this problem fixed. The dealer wants $712 to fix the problem. I have never had a radiator go bad with only 42,000 miles on it when i puchased it. My Explorer now has 49,000 miles & they just found the leak today after being in the shop a couple of times. Anyone else with this issue should contact Ford at (800) 241-3673 so we can get this issue addressed.

michaels2 what engine do you have? Thanks!

michaels2-

ask your dealership about Fords "AWA" (after warranty assistance) program. What this is is a where ford will pick up part of the bill. When my radiator went out at 44,500 last month, I got them to cover 80% of the bill.

My thermostat housing was leaking for a 2nd time too in less than a year.

After some *****ing with the dealership i was able to my radiator change, thermostat housing change, front diff, rear diff, transfer case fluid changes, tranny flush, fuel filter, full radiator flush, all for about $620.00 out the door.

I emailed ford throught their website, and they responded with call us and i did and they just put me back in touch with the dealership. Then I got more refunded to me.

jtudor,

Did Ford pay for your rental car while they had your ex for the week?

Dealership paid for my rental for a night with no warranty

I was able to drive a 2007 F250 4#4 for one week while awaiting for the radiator. How long will it be until Ford has a recall ? Some of the dealers are using the gas increase price as justification to give people a lower trade-in value on the Explorer/F150. Guess you have to walk in with ammo - internet resale, NADA yellow book to cover yourself.

It sounds like once you get pass the 36,000 miles, your on your own. Ford Customer services does not really have any "control" over your vehicle when the warranty is over with. I called them and said that when they gave me the "X" plan discount, the dealers want to know how you got it. It is a catch 22, as I'm sure there is a code they put in the VIN for "trouble" vehicles - all they do is give a few thousand dollars less that the "Blue book" is. It is funny when I went to a GM dealer, they gave me $3,000 more trade-in then the Ford dealer did. This is a great place to vent, but why don't I have a problem with the transmission ?

No, Ford wouldn't cover the rental, however, I was able to get a loaner "service vehicle" Wasn't too bad, an '07 Galant

I got my rear driver's power window to work. Pounded on the window like other members did here - old Fonzie trick !!!1 I wonder if the rubber seal at the top causes the window not to go down ? Maybe the rubber reacts with some salt and water - makes a glue like substance, ot tree sap ?

Defective Radiator

My 2006 EB started having a radiator leak after 43K. Took to dealer who ordered new rad. however was told by dealer 4000 radiators are on backorder and the dealer has no idea when part will be in. I have an extended warranty which also provides me with a rental car however; this is totally unacceptable for a domestic car. I have never owned a foreign vehicle but probably will at next purchase. Any suggestions on how to get ford's attention and possible get my SUV back to me by the end of the year?
