has anybody replaced the factory basic radio on a 2006 explorer without the pac control it says you need to retain steering wheel controls, ect which i do not have, it also says retains chimes, ect, or can i simply install the new head unit with the harness sent to me from crutchfield , it recommended that item but I dont think i need it? i do not have factory amp, ect, anybody that has done it with just the head unit and all will work?

you do not need any fancy harness for an 06 especially if you dont have the factory amp. A simple harness, dash kit, and antenna adapter are all you need!! even if you purchased an aftermarket double din radio you need the kit as the factory radio is still larger than the aftermarket.

2006 explorer

thanks, so you are saying that I dont need this pac adapter that says controls chimes, steering wheel controls, and vehicle speed sensor? so i can just remove stock radio, replace with the kenwood i bought, the harness they gave me to match the factory so i dont have to hack the factory plug, and the install kit, and i wont have any issues starting or driving the car? will attempt and see then send item back was rather expensive, $79.99 and that was with half off cause i bnought as head unit from the at crutchfiled, I assume you have done it b4?

is your kenwood a navagation radio? if so then you dont need the adapter, but its recommended since it will have the vss, back-up wires in it. If the radio is a basic radio, then you can use the standard harness. However if you want to retain the steering wheel controls you need the adapter also.

There are no controls through the factory like chimes.

radio question

since i have no steering controls, or navagation, its just the basic radio, i am thinking i just ned the basic harness they sent me, and i am returning this pac unit, i am assuming that if i put in my aftermarket radio the car will run fine and i should have no trouble,

You know what they say when you assume.... J/K

Yes you will be 100% ok with the basic harness, dash kit, and antenna adapter
