2004 Ford Explorer XLT
Hello Forum Crew, I need some input. I have an opportunity to purchase a 2006 Ford Explorer with about 100K miles on it for $1,500. They just had a new transmission put in it about 2 years ago but the car isn't running. The owner says he doesn't know what's wrong with it but it makes noise when it starts up and runs. Hasn't run now in over 12 months. I'm guessing that in the worse case scenario, I could just replace the motor and have a really nice project EX for a 2"-3" lift kit, front and back as well as bigger tires and new UC arms in the front. Should there be anything else I should look for with this? Again, the car has less than 100K miles on it. I'm not sure what a REHABBED V6 would cost with installation, but I'm guessing it will be worth it. Any input or feedback will be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance. Happy New Year to EVERYONE.
Peace

does it still start? if it no longer starts, it most likely jumped time. if it still starts, you can change the guides. by rehabbed do you mean rebuilt or remanned. many sohc owners choose to put in a low mile running one with new timing guides, cause its cheaper and many of the other components are quite durable.

Thank you. I haven't started it yet. Just going off what he said was wrong with it. I'd likely pick up an engine with low mileage. The rehabbed ones from Jasper are about $4K to $5K. Not sure if I want to invest that much. I'm going to look around just in case it needs a replacement engine. That way I know what I'll need to invest. Any suggestions on rebuilt remanned engines would be appreciated.
