Its a #74 bulb. I've read that NAPA sells them.

Lift armrest lid, remove the two bolts you see. Remove chrome shifter surround, you should be able to just grasp it or gently pry. Then the entire assembly will lift out without much effort. Unplug cigarette lighter. From there, you are on your own unless somebody else chimes in. I've read the bulb is located UNDER the letter "N" for Neutral. How deep, couldn't tell ya.

Found it helpful to turn the key on and put the truck in Drive to give more wiggle room.

Elevine, did you get your shifter light problem fixed? I have the same problem, and now have the consol completely disassembled, but don't see a light bulb anywhere. Hoping you have info on what you did

How to replace gear shift light 07 SportTrac?

I did remove console and chrome trim but the next piece to remove was another story. It looked like there were clips at the 4 corners , however, I was unable to get them to release to all .I did not try to force them for fear of them breaking . Any ideas? I'm going to NAPA tomorrow and purchase the bulb. It will give me an incentive to get the job done. Thanks for your info,Elliot

I did get my bulb changed. The 4 corners of the shifter cover were a challenge. I used a small prybar to pry @ each corner and the cover was flexible enough to finally release. The bulb is on the drivers side in the middle of the selector letters. Can't miss it - 2 wires leading to it. I used a pair of needle nose to grab the plastic bulb socket. Turned 1/4 turn counter clockwise. The bulb is tight to pull out out and new one in. I just pulled and pushed hard. (Bulb #74 @ O'rielly). Shifter cover went back on easily with a little bit of rubber hammer persuasion. Pretty easy job.

I completed this little project this afternoon. After putting up with the bulb being out for a year, I read this how to and found this to be a very simple fix. I appreciate the tip on the needle nose pliers and my bulb was also #74 .

Next up, one of my panel bulbs is out, I'll search the forum for that fix as well.

thanks ,was quite simple. elevine
