I'm replacing the starter on my 07 Sport trac, its the V8. Very little information online about removing the starter. I'm having issues getting the top 2 bolts on the starter off. I have gotten the wire bolts/wires removed, the stud bolt removed, unfortunately snapped the head off of the bolt furthest towards the passenger side. My issue now is removing the mounting bolt on the top of the starter/highest positioned bolt on the starter. I can get a 13m on a 3/8, and a 1/4 ratchet on the bolt, but cannot get enough room to get more then a single click on my ratchets. I'm using 120 click ratchets as well. So no issues with the ratchet. Just a matter of room to break it loose with the ratchets. I have tried coming from underneath the engine bay, laying on my back, but again, its on the top side of the starter, and theres no room for the ratchet handle to point downwards for me to grab from underneath. So I removed the wheel and took off the section of the passenger side wheel well splash guard and i can squeeze either of the ratchet sizes mentioned earlier, with 13mm sockets, all kinds of different extensions and 13mm socket variations as well as an angle extensions and just cannot get my dang ratchet to click more then once or twice at this angle, being the only angle ive been able to actually get the ratchet in there and get the socket on the bolt while still being able to grab a hold of it with leverage to torque by hand. Am I missing something here that I am supposed to be removing to get to this, or a different method I should try as far as an angle to come at the starter bolts from? Removing the header on the passenger side is the only thing I could think of, and its not a very viable option for me, because the header bolts/studs are likely to snap off upon removal due to there condition. Someone? Any Ideas? Anything is welcome at this point because I'm stumped, frustrated, and beyond the point of being able to find a solution myself. Joined this forum to hopefully find some help with this issue.
