I read recently that 2008 is slated to be the last year for the Ranger. I believe this was in the latest issue of Truck Trend.....

2008 Last Year for Ranger?

I have heard the same thing on CNN and other financial news sites, as Ford slims down to avoid bankruptcy. The Twin Cities plant that produces the Ranger is slated for closure, or has already closed, which also adds fuel to the rumors. The Ranger has been selling slowly the last few years. Ford needs to completely redesign the Ranger, which it is unlikely, given their financial troubles.

I think a redesign would be a golden opportunity to introduce a hybrid mid-size truck.

Meanwhile, Ford argues that the Ranger is the most reliable small truck on the road, and I would have to agree. My '94 has been outstanding.

X2...I had a '91 manual until about two months ago. I was in an accident with it (not my fault :-)). However it was my first vehicle and it had 247xxx miles on it when I had to total it and it was still going strong. I never had one bit of trouble with it, sure I had to replace stuff like break pads and it leaked a little oil but it was as dependable as anything. It would be a shame to let the Ranger which is deffinately the most dependable small truck out there become a thing of the past.
