Hello friends, I am new to the board and happy to be here! I have a 2009 V6 Explorer Limited which I would like to change the fuel filter and cabin filter on. Any words of wisdom on changing the fuel filter? Do I need a special tool? Which fuel filter do you suggest? Also where is the cabin filter located? Thanks for the help

No cabin filter on the Explorer.
I used a Wix filter and did not need special tools on my 2006 Exp. YouTube has a video that showed the location and was very helpful.

Ditto, no special tools. Service manual suggests pulling the fuel pump solenoid and trying to start the motor to ensure the pressure is out of the system.

Air Filter

My mom has a 2005 Scion, and it didn't come with an cabin filter, however there was a box in the duct work designed to house a filter. It's as though Toyota cheaped out on the filter. My dad was able to find a filter that fits and it works great. Is anyone aware of a hidden filter housing somewhere in the duct work of the Explorer?

No special tools needed. I never seem to do it without getting covered with gas, even though I take the steps to relieve the pressure in the line. Jack up the vehicle a little, it makes access easier. And keep any hot light bulbs (that you might be using for light) away from dripping gas.
