2010 Explorer Fuel Gage not working

just bought my first car, a 2010 Explorer XLT with 120k miles, but it has a broken fuel gage. it usually stays at E, but sometimes jumps all over the place, never gives an accurate reading. for now, im just using the Trip meter to see how long i have gone since the last time i filled up, but i was wondering if i should invest in a fuel pump or sending unit to fix the problem. i can provide more info if needed. thanks.

Yes it's typically a bad sending unit, resistance sensor on it is fouled or its float arm is sticking. There's also a slosh module but I don't think you'd be getting intermittent jumping around if it had failed.
