2010 Explorer XLT Mirror Upgrade

[98 XLT 4x4]

Currently have '10 explorer xlt with power mirrors, no heated and no puddle lamp. If i purchase the puddle lamp/heated mirrors, will they just work or do I need to do wiring? Anyone do this?

not sure about any factory wiring being already sent to the mirrors for the ones that didn't come equipped with the options. I have a 98 xlt that has the courtesy/puddle light ,but no heated mirrors.

I do know that several manufactures heated mirrors come on when rear window defrost is turned on so if factory didn't supply wiring to the mirror heads then you should be able to splice into the rear window defrost system.

And for the Courtesy/puddle light it comes on with the dome light /door open system, which could also be spliced into the existing wiring going to the mirrors.

I don't know if this helps. This picture shows my mirror which is not heated, but has a puddle light. It has five contacts.

I'm not 100% sure but I would imagine that the wires are already there but you don't have the switch that's in front of the shifter to prob turn them on and I would imagine you would have to reprogram the smart junction box! I'm thinking about adding heated seats in my 08 and it's looking like a pretty big chalange lol
