my 2010 Eddie bauer explorer... only 43,000 miles started acting up the other day..of course im 18 days past my NY STATE 60 day warranty and dealer wont help. car went into limp mode and the check engine light came on and the wrench came on... restarted and now just check engine light is on... once per day now the vehicle goes into limp mode.. my Mechanic buddy scanned it for me and it gave the p2104 and p2112 error codes.. looked it up and it says throttle body... My buddy gets a discount at ford parts and can get a brand new throttle body for $296.00 from ford.
When I called the dealer, of course the dealer says it can be a number of things besides the throttle body including the PCM or Wiring. but they get $88.00 per hour labor to even diagnose it.. now im stuck, should I shell out the $296.00 and have buddy replace for free in hopes it will fix it? or should I take to dealer and have them diagnose it for me? I just don't want to pay 300.00 and then find out it was something else, but I also don't want to pay dealer all this money and then find out it was the throttle body in first place. I just purchased this car two months ago, besides this I love it. only 40,000 miles on it.. and I still have 20,000 miles left on the powertrain warranty but im not sure any of this is covered under powertrain/
What would others do? should I get the throttle body from ford at the discounted $300.00 price and have buddy throw it on? says it takes 5 minutes to do.. or should I bring right to ford and have them diagnose it? im not sure there scanners will show anything more then the scanner my buddy used that showed the above two codes... thanks for the info....

Hi yankeeslover,

Is your Explorer a Certified Pre-Owned vehicle from a Ford dealership? If so, your vehicle comes with a limited 12-month, 12,000 mile warranty. Keep me posted on how you decide to proceed.
