2010 ford explorer EB
2010 EB explorer..only 43,000 miles on it... just purchased three months ago... 60 day nys warranty ran out 20 days ago.... 3 days ago I was driving and the truck went into limp mode... restarted it and it ran fine..then two days ago it did same thing and check engine light came on... went to auto store and ran codes, it came up 2112 and 2104 which led to throttle body... my buddy and I got a brand new throttle body w/sensor and installed it... 2 miles down road truck went back into limp mode...took truck back to friends house and took out the new throttle body since it must not have been that and installed old one...(will take new one back for refund)
drove truck again and it went back into limp mode but this time check rcs or rsc came on and check engine light came back on... ran friends scanner and it gave these codes, U2023,P0122,P0222,P060B,P2104,P2110,P2112,P1000,P2127,P2132..actually repeated these codes bunch of times.. I am no mechanic so I took to local ford dealer..He kept it for 3 hours and ran it thru all test...says he ran all pin point test and only thing he found was many a loose connection at pcm... he then blew out the connection and reconnected it... ran it for 15 miles with laptop plugged in and said it ran fine.. charged me the $88.00 diagnostic fee and sent me on way...
I drove the 20 miles back home and 1 mile before house truck did same exact thing again.... truck keeps stalling, now check engine light is back and I cant go very far without it going into limp mode... I re ran codes with scanner and now it gives the same exact codes as above...I am at a lost of words.. I don't have a ton of money to shell out.. but I love the truck and only 43,000 miles on her... I afraid to take to dealer again as I don't want them to keep fixing things and charging more just to have it not work.. im afraid next they will charge me a house for a new pcm and then it wont fix it and I keep paying into this..anyone have any ideas? anywhere to check? three hour pinpoint check at dealer showed nothing... im at lost of words...thanks

Gosh. What a pain. Don't really even know what to say. Where did you buy it? So far the dealer has treated you right by only charging you 88 bucks. With all the codes it's throwing, the dealer might be the place to bring it. Maybe if he can drive it again and tell you there is nothing wrong again, you could trade it right then and there.

It sounds like one of the retaining clips on the PCM connectors keeps coming loose and the connector vibrates out after 20 miles or so of bouncing down the road. Check the 4 or so connectors that pug into the PCM and make sure they are seated properly with the retaining clip in place, maybe one of them has a broken retaining clip?

Hi yankeeslover,

I reached out to you on another thread you posted on, but I wanted to make sure I touched base with you here, too. Is your Explorer a Certified Pre-Owned vehicle purchased from a Ford dealership? If so, you'll have a limited 12-month, 12,000-mile warranty. Let me know how things progress with your Explorer; reach out to me if you have questions.

Thanks!

Crystal

yankeeslover, Hope I'm not picking at an open wound, but would be grateful for an update on your X.

I´ve been there...

Engine main harness suffers due to engine heat and its wires tend to malfunction. This harness goes along the passenger side of the engine and connects the PCM with many other devices.

First, check the TPS connector (4 wires) at the TPS, and wiggle it gently to see what happens. Here we have high temperatures the whole year, and many EBs show this problem.

Another common issue is the generator control 2 wire connector. Wires get toasted or melted and this brings problems with the charging system.

If your engine now works ok, but still your transmission sets limp mode, try the same with its connector at PCM. PCM has 3 connectors, the upper one for trans, middle for body and lower for engine. If you decide to follow this harness down to the trans case, do not wiggle the connector at case, just don´t touch it because it may get damaged.

Be patient, usually these are harnesss related bugs. Hope it helps!
