2010 sport trac v8
Hello,

I own a 2010 sport trac (my third) v8 and had no problems till a month ago. For the third time i would be driving down the road and the motor just quits. I would slap it into neutral and start it up and continue for a bit. I have had it towed to the dealer 3 times. The first time they replaced the mass air intake but as i said the problem persisted.
The truck is in the dealers shop as we speak (since Friday) and they have NO IDEA what the problem is. No error messages are showing up in the diagnostics.
Anybody have any ideas???

Welcome to this forum! I've moved your thread into the 2007+ Sport Trac section. Did you check the battery terminals & cables? Does the entire electrical system suddenly cut out when it stalls? Did you check the inertial switch?

Thanks for the reponse. This is a new vehicle (7k miles) and still under warantee so i have taken it back to the dealership each time it happened. The times that it has stalled i quickly put it into neutal and it started right up again. So I don't think it is a power system related issue but i am not sure. It is such a random thing all i can think about is getting the car started as fast as possible. I see references on line to fuel pump related problems but it is for older vehicles. I will press the dealership tomorrow to check the inertial switch as you suggested. Thanks again Bill

Under Warranty

Since it's new, take full advantage of your factory warranty. I'll bet that a new ECU/PCU will make the problem go away, assuming that the battery and wiring are all OK.

Welcome, and good luck!

Thanks for your response. On my way to the dealer to talk to the service manager. I will offer him some of the ideas this and other forums have offered. I really appreciate your support.
Will keep you all posted

just got back from the ford dealer. They are hooking up some type of monitoring device and driving the truck around waiting to see if it fails so they can record the incident and figure out what the problem is. Because it is under warrantee they need evidence of the problem to have it covered by Ford...so they cannot just experiment replacing parts.
All electrical power related items (battery, cables, etc) have checked out ok.
keep you posted

maybe a faulty fuel filter or fuel pump?

The Ford dealer has plugged in their diagnostic tool that will capture what is going on the next time it stalls...so we will see. Hopefully it will fail sooner rather than later.
Thanks for the suggestion

now that something is monitoring it, it won't happen...just like when the truck acts up, you take the mechanic for a test drive and it acts perfectly fine!

ain't that the truth...ha ha
