2011 Durango vs. Explorer "Tug Of War" Commercial

So ... what did you go for?
Nothing really lol, got a house on the water so buying a nice CC to dock behind. I didn't really need a new truck but loved how nice the new suv's from Ford, Jeep, and Dodge are. If Ford dropped the Eco-Boost 6 in I would pry get the Ex to replace the Mountaineer and could put up with the glitches and quirks for that engine in that suv lol. Next car though is a CTS-V sedan. So I just fig'd it would have been pointless to spend the $ on the Ex and others if I really didn't need it. Plus the V8 modded in my truck get's 21 on the highway, friends Limited Explorer only get's 22-23... so with my bigger gas tank I can actually cruise longer on the highway, city is like 15-16 so not far behind the 17 he gets.

I did consider the X5 xDrive35, loved it and excellent mileage and power, my friends is JB' tuned and has exhaust etc, f'n flies for a 5k lb vehicle yet that engine and 8 speed are efficient, he get's 25-26 highway... incredible for that suv and performance. Rear seats are a bit cramped feeling though compared to the others, and cargo as well. Drove the xDrive50 and honestly not worth the money, big difference in mileage and yet doesn't feel that much faster in the real world, friend felt the same... yet there's a huge difference in cost whether purchasing or leasing vs the xDrive35. Def not worth it.

Dodge is starting to remind me a lot of Audi, They both are attacking there competition. Its crazy how Dodge now has the Truck commericial and how they back they're powertrains for 100K and I find it hilarious how they specifically say Ford.

It must be sales envy...Ford just like BMW still reporting strong sales with every month that goes by. I just like how Ford and BMW are calm, cool, and collective. They don't see the reason to even say a darn thing....all they do is point at the sales chart. Ouch...

Not so much, last month both the grand cherokee and the durango almost doubled the sales of the EX. Something is definitely working.

When I saw the commercial of that I though that only the Durango was in gear, and the explorer was in park. Not a solid win for the Durango. I don't like dodges, so let's see it against another v8 or something, because a v6 against a v8 is like comparing a surf board to a snowboard. Two different beasts.

Oh wow...thats interesting. I could care less about numbers, I'm enjoying my Ex. I've had a Jeep before sucked gas down like no tomorrow, I'd never be caught dead in a Dodge or on Fire for that matter...

It's not two different beasts... the Durango is a direct competitor to the Explorer. The BEST engine the Explorer comes with is a V6. So it IS a fair test ...albeit the "test" in general is BS in this case... point is, there's nothing wrong with comparing a V8 against a V6 if the "best" the competition has to offer is actually a V6.

Kind of like how everyone on non-Ford forums were complaining about the Ford Ecoboost commercials saying "its not fair because its turbocharged".... uhhh, hate to point out the obvious but DUH! That's the point!

In the end, competition is good... maybe this Dodge commercial will insight Ford to do something like offer the Ecoboost in the Explorer to help compete with the towing/power. ;)
