Pardon the rant but I am ticked! Just had my Explorer in twice last week. Once for oil change, once for MFT updates and "anything else that needed to be done". 500 miles away from home and minutes from a niece's wedding, the 2011 Explorer overheated and shut down. So.... did the dealer not know about the overheating issue? We checked our phones and learned about it while we were waiting for help to arrive. Now we're all over the forums to learn about other issues.

There is one problem we have that has consistently been met with "never heard of that before" is with the liftgate. If I'm outside the car with it open and push the button to have it close, it reverses and reopens if I start the vehicle before it latches. This only happens about 30% of the time - and never at the dealership. Another site has two people mentioning the same problem with the "expert" responding that it doesn't happen. Has anyone else had this experience?

Does ANYONE read the Owner's manual anymore? I deal with this all day long.... :)

Power Liftgate

Note: Cycling the ignition while the liftgate is power closing and is near the latch may cause the liftgate to reverse to full open position. Make sure that the liftgate is closed before operating or moving the vehicle, especially in an enclosure, like a garage or a parking structure. The liftgate or its components could be damaged.

AND/OR

Obstacle Detection

When closing: The system will reverse to full open when it detects an obstacle. A chime will sound three times as the liftgate begins to reopen. Remove the obstacle to close the liftgate can be closed under power.

Note: Entering the vehicle while the liftgate is closing can cause the vehicle to bounce and activate obstacle detection. To prevent this, allow the power liftgate to fully close before entering the vehicle. Before driving off, check the instrument cluster for a liftgate or door ajar message and/or warning indicator. Driving off without first checking for the liftgate or door ajar message and/or warning indicator could result in the liftgate being left open, unintentionally, while you are driving.

Hope this helps!

Welcome to the Form khuna.:wavey:
The 12B36 program for the cooling fans only causes them to randomly run at high speed to prevent possible corrosion of the fan motor contacts. It is not a guarantee that the fans won't fail, as you discovered.
As for the reversing liftgate, as RonJrSVCMGR mentioned, that is covered in the Owner's Guide. I have read through mine several times over the past 15 months and still find new things from time to time. There's a lot of info to digest.:)

Welcome to the forum, khuna. I want to reach out and offer my help by setting up a call from the Customer Service Manager in your area. For me to lend a hand, please send a PM with your contact info, VIN, mileage, and dealer name/state.

I see RonJrSVCMGR already jumped on your second question.

Thanks for posting that, RonJrSVCMGR! I just wanted to add the URL to download the Owner Guide for free :):

Craig & Peter,

You’re right; it’s a pretty extensive read. :D
