2011 Ford Explorer!

You guys have to realize that the people who offroad their Explorers are not the main customer category for Ford on this platform...

I don't think the issue I'm reading in this thread is trouble realizing this.

But rather frustration that Ford has moved our cheese.

Anyone been able to get their hands on the service manual yet for the 11' Ex? I believe its available through one of the motorcraft sites (can't remember which one) but it falls under the subscription portion. I was however able to view the Owners manual, but hoping someone has access to the service manual and can post it here.

Thanks, I was actually looking for the manual so I can see diagrams of the vehicle parts and components, but I appreciate your post either way.

I must say, recently saw that 2011 Explorer "Go. Do." Commercial, and that ~1 second clip of the 2011 slopping thru mud towards the end of the commercial - that is what I'd like to see some more of.
I'm still distrustful of the 2011, and I'd probably never get one just because it's FWD; however, from that very short clip, that looked like some descent mud to me. If I could see about 4 more minutes worth of video clips like that, I'd probably think that the 2011 isn't a complete shame to the Explorer name.

Here is that vid...

Here's another test drive review video where they take the 2011 Explorer off-road- granted it's a prepared off-road track, but it still shows off the capabilities fairly well (except the video takes away the perspective) and I think this type of off-roading is what most people think of when they think of "off-roading".

the presenter is kind of a dork, but still......

Correct! Ford gave us a steak instead of cheese and people are whinning?

Waiting for Thaywood to say that was his driveway in those vids...

Edit: Sorry if I offended anyone! Goodbye!

I have to admit 90% of people that buy this car are not going to be going through anything worse then that rough driveway course they were on.

Thats not offroading. I could get through that stuff on a moped. Real life offroading would be a beach in the Haterras. Sand thats 6 to 12-inches deep. That thing would be a winch anchor.

Real mudholes require climbing out of. Or how about ruts, real trails have ruts. As I said earler gravel parking lots and lightly snow covered roads is the best that thing could handle.

Ford says that almost nobody will offroad their explorer, and that is because it is incapable of any real offroad performance.

You obviously haven't been reading the reviews or test drive results! These are by people that have actually driven them.
I saw one online video that had the Explorer completing the same off road course as the 4Runner.
Also Ford's survey about most people not going off roading was based on the previous generations of Explorer owners, not the 2011!!

Man at 2:04 into it they say it comes with the Mustang 3.7 V6. Is this supposed to be journalism or just some dudes with webcams?

I hate the interwebs...oh, new Lindsay Lohans pics @ TMZ...laterz

That is what you CALL OFFROADING, then you've got to be joking. They have FWD, lifted MALL QUEENS and CARS that go on the sand. So please, open your eyes now and come back to reality!

Steak??? Good Lord. Now I've heard it all.:thumbdwn:

Nah. My driveway is way worse than that:D

No sweat.

I could make it up your driveway in my mustang! This driveway you speak of is nothing but a JOKE!

I make it up my driveway in my '96 Lincoln Mark VIII evey day. What's yer point?

I just said my driveway looks worse than the one in the video.

However, with several inches of ice packed on the road, the old hot rod Lincoln had a hard time. It made it, but it wasn't easy. The Exploder on the other hand, with 4x4 engaged, drove over the ice and snow like it was nothing. But you're right, the road to my house is just a run of the mill dirt road. Worse than anything in the videos shown so far, but not terrible. But I'm glad I have a real 4x4 in case of the recent snow and ice we got. It makes driving in and out 1000000000x easier.

I think people give 4x4 capabilities too much credit- as evidenced by the vast assortment of 4x4 vehicles in the ditch when it snows here. Tires are really the equalizer.

If you put some DOT race slicks on a 4x4 and then try to climb a snow covered road- it's not going to work. Put some studded tires on an open diff FWD and try to climb an ice covered road and it'll fly up it.

And any attempt to dispute this is futile.

The recent snow we had here in Denver, my Explorer with it's supposed "mountain snow flake" All-Terrain tires wasn't as sure footed in the snow as my FWD Saturn VUE with winter tires (Michelin X-Ice on their 5th winter). Yeah, my Explorer could accelerate very well in 4x4 mode, but turning and braking (what I consider much more critical in the snow) resulted in lots of sliding and uncertainty. Tires, tires, tires.
