Can you share pictures of the rusty front subframe?
I have seen the subframe body mounts crack on some explorers. Its more of a stress/age issue than rust.
I live in the rust belt... My front subframe is very clean however the rear subframe factory undercoating is all peeling and starting rust underneath. It will get fully sanded and treated next year. This does not seem to be common from my research on 5th gen rust issues.
Ive also seen the control arm bushings crack and bind to the point of rubbing metal on metal. The suspension is a weak point on these cars IMO.
Also, the PTU and waterpump are most notorious as already mentioned. You may have your hands full real soon if none of those have been serviced at that mileage.
