Sadly, we short sighted Americans have this stupid obsession with more power vs. Economy. The EcoBoost puts out, what, 290 HP? When is 290 HP not enough to push a 4wd? You'd think $4 gas would change that. Guess not.

I was holding out for a 2012 Eco, until I heard the Fwd only. Sad.

Plain stupid. If the I-4 is deemed powerful/durable enough to power a FWD version, there is no reason why it could not power a 4WD version of the same car. Poor marketing decision, what else is new.

Oops...meant to say 237. The concept car with this motor was rated at 275. Both of them are more powerful than than the 5.0 I had in an 89 F150 4wd. (205 HP) Also, not everyone tows. I don't.

Wow. Do think these sales weasels can stoop a little lower and lie through their teeth a little more?

Obviously the vehicle he's showing isn't a 2012, since they haven't even started making them yet.

And he says the V6 "attains 35 mpg" on the highway... Lol, he's only off by 10mpg or so.

It never ceases to amaze me how stupid car salesman are (in general) either because of their lack of product knowledge or sheer lack of morals.

That video is funny. Everything is beautiful. Even the backup sensors.

No regrets

hurray! No 2012 feature envy :)

I agree, the only feature I would like to add is an electric steering wheel that retracts when the truck is turned off. My wife's RX350 does that, but her's doesn't have a seat that moves to the rear.

would have been great to see him flip the second row seat back when we was sitting in the third row. Not sure if he would have ever been able to get out - and that would be beautiful save for the people who bought that EX - they would have been stuck with him saying beautiful all the time.

Found the 2012 Ford Explorer Order Guide on BlueOval.

Here is the link to the PDF

From what I can see, it appears these are the major changes:

1) New center stack that has "meteorite upper and high gloss lower". Not sure I would like that.

2) 4 cylinder ecoboost engine actually available

3) BLIS now includes the inflatable seatbelts feature

4) New Limited 303A rapid spec...Includes P245/50R20 Pirelli Tires and 3.51 Axle Ratio.

5) Two levels of SYNC will be offered in 2012
○ SYNC®Voice-ActivatedCommunicationsand Entertainment available on Base Explorer and Standard on XLT
○ SYNC®Services–Voice-ActivatedCommunications and Entertainment with Traffic Directions and Information. Available on XLT and Standard on Limited.
Note: Traffic, Directions, Information Services receive a complimentary three year prepaid subscription (one phone/primary account)

Is the one for the LIMITED trim the same as on the 2011 (i.e. 3 year traffic / direction / information services)?
I’m glad there can be a clear comparison so there’s no “feature envy”! I was researching between the two Order Guides and found that you are correct that the Limited trim will be the same as on the 2011.

Just got off the phone with my dealer rep and she told me June 13th was when you could actually process a new 2012 order. The pricing information should be available just before or on that date. Can anyone else confirm or deny this?

I was just on the Ford site to see if the 2012’s were there and see there is a new accessory for the ‘12’s. Something called Front Sensing System By Echomaster. Looks like it’s a parking assist to let you know how close you are to an object in front of you like what is in the rear when backing up. Price is $279.00. It’s available on all models.

Cory or another Ford rep. Is this something us '11 owners can have added as well?

Remember now chidren towing cap is not rated just by hp. Ecoboost might have light load sport tires different gearing for fuel savings. Suspension also plays a big roll being a crossover now i think towing is Capacity is something we will all miss from our ex. My old 4.6 hp is not that high cant remember of the top but is in good competion with other trucks like the V8 4runner, pathfinder, durango, etc even some bigger vehicles seqoua, armada etc.I bet with suspension, gearing, and some hankook dynapro you can tow with no problems. Ill gladly add the guilateen towing option to your ex just check the option box and additional 5000 usd. Ahh just find me some dirt trails in rhode islandand we can call it even.:us:

The representative at your dealership is the best way to confirm when exactly an order can be processed and when the pricing information is available. Please let me know if you would like help with anything else!

Has anyone successfully placed an order for a 2012?

Hey Cory,

If you could try to find some more info on the Front Sensing System By Echomaster accessory... what it is exactly and if it is available for the 2011 and whether it will possibly tie in with the MFT?

Thx.

I looked into the Front Sensing System and found that it can be installed on a 2011 but I didn’t see any way to tie it in with MFT. The URL is http://www.FordAccessoriesStore.com/GfaWeb/catalog.do?prodInfo=Explorer~2011~VAS4Z_15A866_A but in order to install the sensor, you also need the Installation Tool Kit: Part # VAS4Z-15A866-C ( http://www.FordAccessoriesStore.com/GfaWeb/catalog.do?prodInfo=Explorer~2011~VAS4Z_15A866_C ). I hope that helps!

thanks... so if i understand correctly... scans for 5 minutes car is started then turns off and if doesnt tie in the to the MFT and no mention of any led indicator to install... then just an audible whenever things get too close? how do you turn it back on then when you are going to need it like in tight parking spot or parking in garage?

Park Assist - Front 4 Modules
Part Number: VAS4Z-15A866-A
Part only: $258.28
Part w/ installation: $396.28

i still may be interested in it though... i never know how close i am with this ex and also when parking in the garage i need to be about 12 inches from the wall and would be great if its that sensitive.

Deleting third row seating

We previously owned a 2000 Explorer and loved it. I want to order a 2012 Limited but as I understand Ford, they will not let you order the new Explorer without the third row seats. My wife and I are retired and don't want or need three rows of seating. Why won't Ford let you delete the seats and get a larger storage capacity for those people that travel and need the space?
