Hi All:

So, we bought a brand new Explorer 2 weeks ago today. Love it! But, on Thursday, I decided to clean the navigation screen. Suddenly, it would not start a few minutes later. Kept saying battery save system off, and check charging system. Husband took it to Autozone since Ford service was closed already. Full diagnostic showed nothing wrong. Worked great all day Friday but we did have to boost it off Thursday night before taking it to AZone. Yesterday, took it to car wash to get wax job since Ford did not do it the day we bought it. The guys cleaned inside and out. Got in it to leave and nothing. Had to boost off again. Then ran great. This morning ready to leave and nothing again. Had to take the Expedition instead. Got home started one time then back to nothing but battery save system off and check charging system. What on earth is going on??? Seems like I smelled a faint burning smell the other night. Help please.

Doesn't sound like something common, you're going to have to take it to the dealer and have them diagnose and fix the problem. Any suggestions would just be speculation from your description of what's happening.

Have you checked the battery connections? Because it is starting with a boost, it would seem to be a battery or connection problem. Perhaps it is the battery itself.
Also to make it easier for members to respond to future questions/concerns, it would be helpful if you showed which model Explorer you have in the left margin profile. Good luck.

Sounds like the battery to me. Either way, dealership vists is a must.

Starting Issues

Same type of problem - 2013 Limited Mar thru Aug no issues, brought in for oil change and asked dealer to look at FMT since it recently seemed slow to initialize - told it was working fine. Left and started having issues starting with Push Button Start - battery save system indications and/or No Key Detected - since FOB allowed me entrance to vehicle - why could it detect from outside and not in EX. This would happen for days and then work fine, issue happened with both FOB's.
Remote Start works 100% of the time and never an issue. When EX doesn't start, have to hit Btn again, open door and wait for recycle and they use the remote start. Taking back 2nd time to dealer and leaving since issue is intermittant - lwt you know if any thing comes out of it.
