So, I have been chasing an evap code for months now. The issue started last year when I noticed the gas pump kept "clunking" back, as if I had a full tank.

A few days later I got a check engine light; Code P0456 (Small evap leak detected).

The light comes and goes and after some research I decide to replace the Purge valve in the engine bay.

Few days later the light is back, I take it to my mechanic and they can not really narrow it down. Suggest maybe the Solenoid purge valve under the vehicle is having issues. They cleaned out my fuel tank and didnt charge me. Its a cheap part so I replace that as well. Note: At this time the error code is sometimes P0455, and sometimes P0456 (large/small)

A week later, light is back on. I took it to my local mechanic and they simply cant figure it out. Smoke test & all other tests came back negative and theyre at a loss, suggest taking it to the dealer.

I take it to the dealer. They tell me the purge valve in the engine bay is bad. I call BS but they go ahead. Week later, light is back on.

Any thoughts on where to go next? I am hesitant going back to ford because they arent listening to me, seemingly.

Also something I noticed: The check engine light turns off at half a tank, and back on when I fill up. Im thanking the filler neck at this point.

Since the filler is capless there is a vent in there I believe. I would look at that next

Would that be the "Canister Vent Valve Solenoid"? I tried replacing that with no luck.
