- 2014 Ford Explorer XLT
Have a 2014 Explorer. On my girlfriends trip, about 1 1/2 hours in the ABS, light came on and the Service Advance Trac and Power Steering Fault message came on. It freaked her out so she pulled over at a gas station, turned the vehicle off and turned it back on. Message then said all the same except "Power Steering Loss". She had it towed to the nearest Ford Dealership and they told her it was the Rack and Pinon so she agreed to have it changed out for $2,000 dollars. After a couple of days, she picks up the vehicle and 30 minuets into driving it all the same error lights and messages came back on. So she kept driving it home. Next day we had it taken to a local Ford dealer where they read the codes and came up with a P07AE code. They reset it, drove it around for a few days and no issue came about. She picked it up and the next day after driving it down the highway, all the same stuff came back on. So she had it towed back to the original dealership that changed the rack and pinon. They stated the vehicle arrived to them in perfect driving condition and that no codes, warning lamps or warning messages were present (which when it left us the Power Steering Loss Message was on). After 3 weeks they told us to come pick up the vehicle claiming that there is no faults with it in which I told them there was a problem that they needed to fix it. So I took off of work one day, went there, drove the vehicle for them and had the ABS, Service Advance Trac and Power Steering Fault message come on. They then rescanned the vehicle and came up with some codes that didn't mark but stated as "Communication Faults". 4 days later they said the vehicle was ready and that it was due to "Low Tire Pressure of 2 pounds from normal". So when driving it back, of course 45 minuets later I am stuck with an ABS, Service Advance Trac and Power Steering loss again. To make this short as possible, the dealership told me that this isn't their problem or responsibility to take it some where else, made a claim with Ford Corp and they basically said I was S.O.L if I take it somewhere else. So still fighting that battle.
I was able to scan the vehicle with a phone app and got codes C1B00, U0131, U0140, U0100, U0121, U0131, U0140, U0151, U0154, U0159 and U0212 which are all saying "Inactive" currently and all those codes are basically "No Communications" with the modules. I deleted the codes, reset the system which took away the ABS, Service Advance Trac and Power Steering Fauly/Loss messages.
I am currently using my laptop hooked up to the vehicle and monitoring the steering angle sensor data with the PSCM using ForScan to see what happens when the problem occurs again. As of right now, the only message I have gotten is that the PSCM stated it received incorrect data from the ABS module in regards to the Steering Wheel Angle Sensor. I will be driving it this weekend to see if I can get the fault messages to come on and to see what ForScan says they are.
I have checked voltage on the DLC connect and have 12 volts between pin 16 and 4/5, I have 2.1 volts on pin 14 and 2.7 volts on pin 6. There is 61 ohms of resistance between pins 6 and 14.
I do plan on checking this weekend the wiring harnesses to see if there is any nicks or cuts which could be causing a short or ground on the CAN bus since I had all those communication codes.
Problem only seems to occur when driving the vehicle down the highway. Problem does not come on when driving it around town or in stop and go traffic (been doing that all week with it).
My question is, has anyone ran into this issue before? Could it possibly be a bad module that intermits randomly for a second which would cause the power steering fault, ABS and service advance trac to come on?
Also my alignment is off by 8 degrees when they changed the rack and pinon which it wasn't off prior to them changing it. When the steering wheel is dead center, it says it 0 degrees, but to go straight down the road I gotta hold it 8 degrees off center.
