2014 Explorer Sport... Where are the RCA inputs?

Yeah it makes sense now. I was just looking for another slot since it mentioned playing music via an SD and it's currently being taken up by the navi card.

Hey everyone!

The A/V ports were removed from the 2014 Explorers; there's an auxiliary input jack for 1/8th connectors. If your Owner's Manual still states A/V inputs, we are aware and working to have it updated.

Rebecca

Can I ask what the reasoning was to remove a feature from the media hub and not replace it with another video input?

I'm guessing that they don't want video played on the MFT screen. But like I said, it's just a guess. Personally, I don't really see why video should be available there in the first place.
I'd also be interested/curious as well in Ford's reasoning.

Peter

Im not following that reasoning though.

So you want/allow video to be played for 2011,12,13 model years but in 2014 you don't want video played?

Nothing changed from a distracted driver regs stand point.

It never worked while vehicle was in motion, it was an active feature ONLY when the vehicle was in park.

Wasn't aware of that last part since I've never tried to use it. Perhaps with all the talk about 'lock picks' to allow for it in motion in the earlier models they decided to eliminate it altogether. Does that make sense? I guess it doesn't really matter now. It is what it is.

Im making some inquiries now.....hopefully will have an answer soon.

I can't speculate on the reasoning behind is, Sgt1411.

I didn't want you to speculate either, thought maybe you would make an inquiry through the Explorer electrical engineering team as to why the change.

Im already on it, no worries.

So this is what I found out.......

The 2014 MY migrated to the new mini-MCM that will have the USB capability to charge tablet devices.

The 13MY MCM did not.

The 14MY deleted those RCA inputs as most customers do not use them.

Can a 2013 be retrofitted to work w/ the mini-MCM so that I can charge my f'n iPad and play through USB? I've been working on this for 2 months now w/ various hubs/chargers, etc... I've been stuck charging through accessory while playing through BLUETOOTH which sucks. (no album art, dropped audio, etc)

can you get part numbers for the parts that are different?

If the actual APIM is different then it would be a pricey retrofit, if it's only the media hub (19A387 / C1BZ-19A387-A) then it'd be like a 100$ swap out.

the lock pick reasoning would not make much sense, as the kit actually comes with additional inputs for video so you can add more cameras if wanted like a front facing camera or baby monitor camera. i guess its actually the only way now to have video at all. its only a 5 min install that anyone with even the most basic skills can handle. its probably just that most people did not use the things, and since video in the car is likely mostly for kids anyway, you would likely have either the stock or aftermarket rear seat video for that purpose. personally I'm planing on getting the lock pick setup cause I'm a gadget junkie.

Audio / Video Input

I purchased a 2014 Explorer limited which should have the AV inputs as per the specs but I can't seem to find the inputs. Below the MFT system, I see two USB ports, the SD card slot and an audio input (headphone jack)....However, I see nothing for VIDEO inputs.

Am I missing something? Can anyone confirm this on their 2014 explorer?

Welcome to the Forum gchacko.:wavey:
As per my PM, I have moved your post to this existing thread where you will find your answer.

I take it you don't have the 401A package that comes with the 110V outlet on the back of the center console?

I do.. what does that have to do w/ charging AND playing through USB at the same time?

I was under the impression you were looking for am easy way to simply charge an iPad, not play music also at the same time.

Nah, if you look at the post you quoted it says "I've been stuck charging through accessory while playing through BLUETOOTH which sucks. (no album art, dropped audio, etc)" ... There are NO hubs available that will charge an iPad while allowing USB sync (other than datamation carts which are ~600-1000$ and hold 8-16 iPads)

As I mentioned above, I consulted the engineers and the RCA video connections were discontinued for 2014 because the feedback from customer focus groups was that they were never used.

Now you get a mini stereo input jack in the Media Control/Connection Module along with a "powered" USB port(s)

I don't have my 14 yet so I cant test but I would be interested to know if you can push video through the USB ports now.

Are you able to test?

According to Rebecca's post #15 , the answer is NO.
