Hi, I replaced my blend door actuator in my 2016 sport a couple months back. It worked, but the actuator seemed to ignore the limits of the damper and kept trying to open or close further, eventually causing a gear tooth to break in the actuator. How do I reset the system after replacing the actuator, so that it knows the limits and stops when it's supposed to?

Welcome to the Forum.
There have been several actuators replaced but I can not recall anyone mentioning any calibration was required.

I am also wondering if there is a calibration necessary for these blend and mode doors. In the 2 years of owning this 2015 explorer, I have replaced 3 blend door actuators. Thinking I might be doing something wrong, I finally took it into a shop to have them replace one, and that started clicking and grinding after 1 week.
Is anyone else running into similar issues?
The replacement actuators I've tried have been the Dorman brand.
Thanks!

Welcome to the Forum Brad.
As I mentioned above, I'm not aware if calibration is required or not. I'm guessing the "shop" you went to was not the dealership.
I don't know if the video in this thread is of any help. Blend door actuator?

Thanks Peter.

No, I haven't taken it to a dealership.
The repair shop is going to try installing a genuine Ford actuator to see if that lasts longer.

In all the years I've been on forums, one thing that I have always remembered is how many times I have been told Dorman parts are pure crap. Not saying that is your problem but I would stay clear of them if I were you. Especially with the online Ford dealers that save you 30-40% off OEM parts.

Write-up for Directional Door Actuator, but I touch on the Blend Door as well. No calibration is needed, just have to ensure it is clocked properly when installed.
