I know there have been some threads covering this in general. Just wondering for those who have the new 16s - any real world numbers?

Which engine? Miles per full tank? Driving mix? Mpg (if you have calculated?)

Also, anyone more mechanically inclined to comment - do these engines have a break in period? Anything to know with respect to the Ecoboost engines (aka turbo, engine break in period?)

Thanks

Taking mine on a road trip this weekend, will report back on milage. Truck has only about 400 miles on currently.

2016 Sport. Took a trip down to Nashville and then camping in Alabama from Chicago. Was loaded down with coolers, camping gear, food, bedding, clothes. I ran about 80mph and got 21. I noticed that when I ran 70 I was getting 24mpg+. I am getting over 19 in may daily city driving.

2016 Sport. Averaging 17.5MPG over 980 miles. Mix of highway driving and stop-and-go driving. The stop-and-go driving kills the MPGs for me.

Don't trust the mileage for the first 1k, and honestly, my 15 sport didn't stabilize until after 3k.

ours has 4000 miles on it now - about time for second oil change.

but it would seem we get about 20.3ish combined mostly city. and that it might seem to get 25 highway.

I plan to change the oil on ours after the first 1000 miles. Not required, just a preference I have with a new motor to get all the manufacturing junk out of it. Also there is a notice to not tow with it for the first x.. miles. I also would not do any hard acceleration starts or high speed driving with for the first 1000 miles.

high speed driving needs to be done (well define high) in those early miles for the transmission and the driveline bearings.

that's not an issue. but yes I did 1000 miles - ish - to get the early gunk out of the engine and a new filter.

then I am doing 4000 ish - as a repeated.

after that - going till I see the oil life monitor % read 20 remaining or less.

First 1400 miles. Just got back from Yosemite. Averaged 23mpg at 75mph. Plan to change the oil this weekend.

3.5 V6.

I have a 2015 Sport. I doubt much has changed between the 2015 eco-boost and the 2016 eco-boost "sport" model.

I towed a trailer from Salt Lake City to Bryce and back. On the way there, I got 17mpg, and on the way back, 19. I attribute the difference to wind and overall elevation gain (going to Bryce I climbed from 5k feet at my home to 7300 feet at the campground).

We kept the speed to 75 most of the way. The trailer was a 3000 pound pop-up, so wind resistance was less of a factor than it would be for hard-side trailers.

When not towing, my city/commuting mileage is a little better than 19. And highway mileage is fairly well in excess of 20.

Agree there should not be much difference between the '15 and '16 Sport (3.5 EcoBoost engines). Although impossible to test unless the two different models were driven under the exact same conditions....but technically I would expect the '16 Sport to be slightly better due to what Ford says is a 5% efficiency from its air curtains / better aerodynamics. If true, that would equate to approx 1-1.5MPG better mileage (5% of 20mpg = 1 mpg better)

ratings on the sport models are identical IIRC. the sport model doesn't have the active grill that the ecoboost 2.3 and the base 3.5TIVCT have.

hmm 2016 Limited v6 here... the range is pretty disappointing. filling up with regular and my range to empty is normally like 400kms... ugh. it's still in the break in period (I have probably 500kms on it) so maybe it will get better...

with a 70L tank it should be getting around 480 at least no?
