2016 Sport Cruise Control Resume and CXL not working

I have a 2016 Sport and I discovered an odd occurrence. The cruise control turns on and off just fine and I can set it. But the Resume and Cancel buttons on the steering wheel don’t work. Also, opposite side of the steering wheel, the volume and track buttons work fine but the Voice Control and Mute do not work. It’s strange because it’s the middle button on both sides of the steering wheel. Any ideas what I can check on my own that could cause this?

Do you know how to remove the airbag? To test the buttons, you have to access their wires. You could try to pry the button modules out of the wheel while the airbag is in-place, but without seeing their connectors, you might damage them or the wheel.

Do you have any scanner (like ForScan on a laptop) capable of reading live data? That would let you check if the button signals are being received and then sent through the network.

I've read that a faulty clockspring can cause issues with the steering wheel buttons.

It's not THAT bad. You just have to unplug it (which makes it safe) and put it where it won't do any damage even if it somehow goes off (usually on the ground under the vehicle face-up). Technicians & mechanics remove them without assistance all the time.
The buttons themselves still move and can be pressed, they just don't register a response.
You don't know what the buttons are registering until you test them at the wires in the wheel, or use a live-data scanner (like ForScan on a laptop with a dongle). You only know that the PCM isn't registering you pressing them, but that could be anything from the button to the PCM (including the clock spring, the column module the HS2CAN network, the BCM, the HS1CAN network...).
 






So I assume if I don't have some sort of live scanner I don't really have any other options to diagnose on my own?

If it's trouble codes (DTC) you're looking for, some places like AutoZone will do it for free.
