I have a 17 Explorer with heated/cooled seats. I will have the seat heater on when I drive to work in the morning & then shut the car off. At noon when the weather has warmed up and it's fairly warm in the car from the sun, I start the car & the heated seat is still in the on position. Is there a way to make it so the default start position of the climate seats is off? I've been looking in Forscan and cannot find anything. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think they stay on until you shut them off. I am used to doing that when I get back in my EXP. Same thing with the steering wheel.

I have not thought about looking to change that.

It does state in the manual:
"The heated seats may also turn on when you start your vehicle if they were on when you switched your vehicle off."
I know for mine, the passenger heated seat comes on even when it doesn't sense a person sitting in it and I have to manually shut it off.

Is that because someone was sitting in the seat with the heat ON when the EXplorer was shut OFF? Since I am the only driver/occupant, the passenger seat has never come on since it isn't used.

Welcome to the Forum Duane.
My previous vehicle was a 2017 Platinum but I can't recall if the heated seats came ON in the last used position. I always have the Climate Control set to "Auto". I don't know if that makes a difference in regards to the seats but I know it does with the HVAC system.

Yes there was someone when I shut the car off. But still annoying to have to manually turn it off when no one is sitting in the seat. For all I know if someone turns on the rear heated seats and I turn off the car they turn on the next time I start the car as the manual says it also has the same memory functionality. And no where in sync is there the option to control those, only the physical buttons on the back of the center console.

What I like about the wording in the Manual is that it says the seats MAY ALSO turn on............. To me, that indicates that it is not a definite thing.

Yeah i would love to know the logic.. as a programmer there has to be an if(this){}else{} kind of code and someone should know what that is

My experience with both heated and cooled seats on my ‘16 sport is when my HVAC IS SET TO “auto” and I use the remote start on a cold…or hot morning, the heated or cooled seats will engage automatically. Then when entering the vehicle and pressing the start button which engages the full accessory mode, I have to adjust the heat/cooling levels according to my desires. Once adjusted, this setting will hold until the auto-start mode is used again. Otherwise, the setting will remain as you left it from a manual ignition start/stop. So, if you start/stop your explorer manually while inside the vehicle, and your HVAC is in auto, your settings will remain how you left it. That’s how mine works anyway…

"Once adjusted, this setting will hold until the auto-start mode is used again." :dunno: Are you referring to remote start?

Yes…if you leave your car and re-enter using the ignition switch; and your HVAC is in auto, your settings will remain how you left them. If you leave your car with HVAC in auto and then use your remote start before entering, your system will default to the environmental conditions inside the vehicle and automatically adjust accordingly. Then when you press the start button when entering, whatever adjustments you make will remain until such time as you use the remote start again. That’s how mine works anyway…

Also, let’s say your “full auto” temp is set to 70 (whether it’s warm or cold outside), your vehicle will adjust to 70 no matter what method you use to start your explorer (making sure that defrost/fan/etc is off…just the “auto” button illuminated). The environmental conditions inside only seem to be affecting the heated and cooled seats…and not the temperature that you have set in auto for your HVAC!

Also, in my experience, only the driver seat is affected by the remote start…but if the passenger seat(s), heated steering wheel, etc is left on before and after an internal start (not a remote start), they will default to how you left them!

No. Not referring to remote start. I'm referring to when you have the heated/cooled seat active on your way to work in the morning. shut the car off at work. then get in it after work & start it up, it resumes the last seat setting which in this case would be on.

Yes, settings remain.

Okay, that is just the regular starting procedure. The terminology threw me off as there is no "auto-start mode".
