- 2017 Ford Explorer XLT
My 2017 Explorer started howling in cold weather (-10C) 3 years ago. It continued through the spring and summer last year. The local mechanic and Ford cannot find the issue.
It happens frequently but not all the time. Usually around 40kmph, or 90-110kmph. The howling is sometimes the same, it happens when slowing down or accelerating.
My mechanic suspected it was the serpentine belt, so that was replaced. A wheel bearing was suspected and one wheel bearing was replaced recently. It happens on both summer and winter tires with different rims.
I think the wind is getting caught somewhere but I can't figure out where or what to look for or even how to look for it. I had the windshield washer tank replaced last August and it stopped after that but started up again a month ago.
Any ideas whatsoever? I enjoy the vehicle but it is driving me crazy. The garage and Ford won't look at it anymore even after hearing the sound since it doesn't cause driving issues.
