2017 Ford Explorer Sport
Hi Great Explorers!
Well, I'm handing over my 2015 ltd keys and picking up the 2017 Sport soon. Having the usual "Christmas" jitters and scouring the ford brochure, YouTube vids, the web and your forum for any goodies of what I'm about to take ownership of... so, a couple of gadget questions and my apologies if these have already been answered.

During the short test drive, I had noticed that I had park assist and bliss however never got the chance to ask / see if the car was equipped with the collision warning and braking system. Will it be equipped with it? Brochure states that it's optional however I'm not sure if that comes with a particular safety pack or a special order?

My current 2015 Ltd has ford stock roof bars attached, will they fit the 2017 Sport?

I have a dashcam and it currently takes power from the cigarette socket in the centre console. I am fairly certain I saw a USB socket replacement in the 2017 version. Don't know where or how to provide power to the camera. Has anyone else figured out a solution for this?

Finally a silly question; I don't ever recall seeing any gear changing paddles nor do I expect to have them, but the ford website states "The Ford Explorer comes standard with a Six-speed SelectShift® automatic transmission with steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters, so you can easily and quickly change gears." So.... which Explorer trim version gets that?

Any other links for gadgets of interest would be appreciated. Thanking you all kindly for your valued responses

Chris

I am currently getting ready to pull the trigger on a sport or platinum. I love my paddle shifters and will not buy a car without... instead of breaking in a host of instances I downshift with paddle....

Have you gone to the Ford website to check out the packages and options? You can do a "Build & Price" on the vehicle and see what is available in which packages.
I know the paddle shifters are available on the Sport and Platinum but I'm not sure about the other trim levels. When you mention "stock roof bars" are you referring to the cross bars? I'm quite sure that they will not fit as the 2016/17 models all have a different roof rail system.

As for getting power to the dashcam there are a few threads on that already with different solutions. Here is just one of them.

I suggest that you familiarize yourself with the use of the very handy 'Search' feature (top right) that the forum has. You will find more threads on the topics above.
Depending on what you are looking for, there are features available on the Limited and the Platinum that are not available on the Sport. You can use the "Compare" feature on the Ford website to check that out.

Thanks, appreciate the links and will continue to research until I take receipt of the car.

Chris, in Canada you don't get much of a choice with options on the Sport, everything is standard 400A package other than the following...

Twin Panel MoonRoof
Adaptive Cruise Control/Collision Warning
2nd Row Dual Captain's Chairs
2nd Row Center Console

The upgraded Platinum Stereo is standard now on Sport.

The "Z" rated tire option offered on the Sport is a US only thing, Canuckastan Transport Canada old guys don't allow Ford to sell those on the vehicle exported to Canuckastan even though you can buy the same tire anywhere in Canuckastan.

I just put a dashcam in and I used the red accessory power wire behind the drivers "A" pillar trim that's there for the RainSense Wiper option we dont get in the Sport. Pictures in the other thread are excellent.

For the dashcam, I have tapped the BCM fuse panel twice. I run a switched add-a-fuse, separate circuit, from the RCM fuse and run an always-hot add-a-circuit from the APIM fuse. I use a Power Magic Pro to bring it all together. No wire cutting or any other garbage, works like a dream.

Haha, I'm a Brit living in Oh Canuckastan, Sgt. Not fussed about the Z's though I got a set of winters already. Included options that I took note was the moon roof, 2nd row chairs but no centre console and I won't know if I've got the collision warning till tomorrow. I've been reading about wiring the dashcam but, not being a fan of playing with hocuspocus ecentricity, wires n stuff, I've been a little hesitant about doing that; as Franch's acronyms added to my, "yeah not trying that" attitude . However, I'll try and find a "how to vid" and see how it goes. Cheers bud.

Everything sgt1411 listed are extra including dual dvd head rests being options that you generally can't add afterwards (not including accessories such as floor mats etc...).

Hardwiring a dashcam is fairly easy and frees up a 12v socket.

Ya your right but I kinda looked at the OEM Factory DVD kit as an accessory, but maybe you're right it's an additional option to order when building the vehicle from day 1.

The same DVD kit can be purchased later, along with the 2nd row console

So, just taken receipt of the black beauty; fantastic service from the garage and I'm now mulling over the specs and car. Looks like it did come with the adaptive cruise control and braking system. Continuing to check it out, cheers everyone.

Didnt you get a Window Sticker before delivery?

Hey Sgt, so how this all went down was somewhat of a whirlwind event. The Ltd was in for a service and I was killing time walking round the lot and saw the delivery come in with the Sport. That evening I got an xplan pin ready and went for a test drive on the Saturday morning. No time to check the spec details as once I drove the ecoboost I was hooked. Just one of those weekends that you don't expect to have!

Now that's fast!

Same as me, I had a 13 Limited, drove a Ford demo 14 Sport and EcoBoost sold me.

Traded almost immediately.

Get the Platinum. Hands down better vehicle!

You will be Psyched / Pumped you did!

better dash board, electronics, more features.

if pure driving will be in 'sport' mode, i guess sport would be preferred for you.

For me, for small price increase, get every option available, plus ability to drove from "D" to "S" and have fun. Albeit, the suspension is a tad softer, but I do much highway driving, so that is better for me.

Drive both, look at the options, pick what is the best 'FIT' for you. really the only thing that matters.

Lol, I guess reading comprehension and scarasim is not your thing.
Op already took delivery of a Sport and you posted afterwards that the Plantinum is the best "hands down", so I wanted to pull your leg.
FYI, I do have a Sport.

I really liked the Sport. Def handles better, hugs the roads on turns, less sway.

I hope you have a blast in it!

Forgive my mis read, late night, tired.
