Yeah, I think the contrast with the black sport pieces would look funny in Quartz.

Question - did you consider Platinum vs. Sport? Given the slight pricing difference, I'm considering it even though I think the Sport looks better.

The Sport suspension and programming differences are superior to the Platinum for the driving enthusiast compared to the "comfortable" driver.

I know there are "experts" here who read the window sticker or the marketing material and say they are the same. I talk to the engineers who program the EPAS, AWD, and suspension, they are not the same.

I agree, the appearance of the Sport is preferred, I have a severe dislike for chrome so the Platinum is out for me.

Thanks. I definitely have to think this through... only thing that really appeals to me are the massaging front seats - seems like they would be nice for a long road trip (of which we seem to do a lot). Rest of what the Platinum brings isn't all that exciting to me. So it comes down to seats vs. the look of the Explorer. The price difference especially since I'm leasing isn't that much.

Go for the Limited then.

I don't care about the Sports suspension or tuning. After all, it isn't a race car...
But it is by FAR the best looking package. The wheels, the grille and the blacked out interior in the headlights..on any color...
Just looks great.
If I could only talk my wife into a black interior..

The Plat grille and wheels are just don't cut it. In fact, I rank it dead last in the looks dept.
I think you will be very happy with the Sport.

Agreed on all counts.

Had the Limited with a 2.3 not gotten 26 MPG highway vs 22 in the Sport, I would have ended up with a Sport myself. But I will enjoy that extra range in the '17 I ordered.

I'll miss the blacked out accents, but we choose our poisons.

Go for the Limited then.

Not the right engine choice for me - I love the twin turbo Ecoboost. Two years ago I was looking at the Limited vs the Sport, primarily due to a few amenities not offered in the Sport - e.g. HID lights. In the end performance won out.

This debate is a little different as performance is pretty much equal...

I wouldn't have even considered the Platinum had they not introduced the black interior. Last night I put together comparison pics from the Ford website for a number of views including the interior and showed my wife.

She resoundingly picked the Sport - additionally, she does not think massaging seats in a car make any sense and does not think the other Platinum goodies are worth it over the look of the Sport. I feel like the lean is now towards another Sport!

There are engine programming differences as well between the two EcoBoost engines.

Not to mention AWD and PTU programming differences.

Difficult to get info on exactly what those are but they arent the same.

Isnt the Sport a little lighter too?

Its like the 3.7 in the Lincoln or Mustang is programmed differently than the 3.7 in the PI Utility.

Marketing material is often misleading when you actually drill down a little.

Just got back from my favorite dealer. No Platinum Explorers unfortunately in stock. However, I got in a F150 Platinum to try the seats. I thought they were quite nice and I can see how they would be very useful during a road trip. Salesguy says they have no '16's in stock anymore and I'll be 3rd in line already for a '17. Need to order soon...

Wanted to report back... Made a decision and ordered a '17 today.

For me, the bling of the Platinum was just too much to overcome even for the nice massaging seats. Ordered a loaded up Sport!

Appreciate the feedback along the way.

You dump the idea of Smoked Quartz and go Black or Magnetic?

Has anyone seen a price list yet?

We have been waiting for months for the 2017 to place our order, but would like to see a price breakdown before visiting the dealer. Does anyone know where we can get this info? Thanks!

The longer you wait to place your order, the later in the fall it will take for your vehicle to be built.

Build a 16' on Fords site, and add a potential $400.00 in increase model year cost, and you should be very close to the 17' price.

Honestly, visit the dealer and bite the bullet. I chose to order a 2017--the dealer printed up the final order invoice and submitted it, all pricing included with A/X/Z plans as applicable.

Otherwise, you're just guessing--not to mention, as Tuscany said, you'll end up later in the build pool.

Try going to edmunds.com
at the top of the page chose make model and year.
the next page there will be some tabs.. click on the "MORE" tab.. then click on the "Build and Price"

Here you can build out the 17 with all the options you want. Once done.. it will give you BOTH MSRP and LIST price of the car and all the options.
