Since the Explorer will be redesigned for 2020, I doubt that the stop/start feature will be available in the 2019 models. I think the 2020 model would be a better bet.
The 2019 orders will be accepted starting June 13th, I'm sure the Order Sheet should be available shortly before that.
Thanks for the information.
Just a passing question. What do the F150 and Fusions have as adaptive cruise pieces that allow Stop and Go but not Explorers?
Have an Explorer Sport that the Dealer ordered some time ago and was built in early March that is what we want, but it has been sitting in Chicago for the last month. What's up with that?
Thanks for the information.

Sometimes they may sit in the yards waiting for enough to ship out on the railcars or could be a lack of railcar availability. Have you asked your salesperson?
Heck, I could have walked to Chicago and driven it back to Florida by now... hahaha
Did ask my sales guy. I'm looking at the same info he is. The dealer will check further since we are an interested buyer. Thanks
You do not need Adaptive Cruise Control to get the Auto Start Stop feature. If you are asking if it will stop you in traffic and take off by itself when traffic clears I hope never. If you are asking about the stop the engine and start the engine then 2020 like Pete said.
I believe Ford's new models that have Adaptive Cruise with Stop & Go (up-to a dead stop & then take off within 3 seconds) have an additional short range radar (Lidar?) that the older models lack. So it is not a simple upgrade. The Explorer still does not offer the Stop & Go feature. Also, as far as I've seen, the models with Stop & Go would also have pedestrian detection which is made possible by the additional radar & probably also improved camera and/or software.
Thanks for the information.

My understanding is auto start/stop requires changes to the transmission (addition of an electric supplemental pump) and changes to the brake system similar to the electronic parking brake. The Explorer and Taurus still use a manual parking brake and they have not added said pump to the 6F50/6F55. Since those are significant production changes, requiring interior and mechanical updates, Ford will wait for a refresh, or in this case, redesign in 2020. Honestly, the auto start/stop feature in our Escape drives us nuts, and our driving habits are such that it doesn’t save us much fuel. Ymmv.
The adaptive cruise is a different system, and would be easier to cram in without major changes, but the 2019 is the last year on the current platform, so no new features should be expected.
Wait...are we talking about auto start/stop or a feature for automatic cruise in stop and go traffic as part of the cruise control system? I got confused mid thread.
Stop and Go in traffic as a part of Adaptive Cruise control. Stop and Go is available on F150's and Fusions, but not currently an option for 18 or probably 19 Explorers. Appreciate the information. Thanks

Unless parameters on which the Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) works is changed, it won't work in stop and go traffic since ACC it automatically disables when speed drops below 12 mph.
My daughter just purchased a 2018 Expedition Limited and it has both Adaptive Cruise Control and Stop & Go. Loves the Adaptive Cruise, hates the Stop & Go.
