Here is a new video showing the new infotainment on the 2025 Explorer
Interior Changes: There is a redesigned dash board using soft touch materials where possible, and new colors. New sound bar wraps around the dash. The new design gives the appearance of more front room at each seating position. The cell phone charging pad is now under the radio controls in the center of the dash. All climate controls are now in the touch screen. (see photo)
All new interface now called “Ford Digital Experience” google map based compatible with Apple CarPlay, Alexa & Google etc. There is a new driver interfaced and digital gauge cluster. Standard 90-day trial of Ford “BlueCruise”, hands free driving on the highway, is on the ST Line, ST & Platinum, a subscription service available after the 90-day trial period. An additional USB port has been added in the third-row seating area. The second and third rows and the cargo area remained unchanged.
Engine and Power Train Line-up: The engine line up is the 2.3 Liter EcoBoost I-4 and rear wheel drive is standard on the Active, ST-Line & Platinum. The 3.0 Liter EcoBoost is standard on the ST and available as an option on the Platinum. Intelligent Four-Wheel Drive is available as an option on all trim models.
Exterior Changes: Front grille has changed to a more aggressive look; the grilles are made of plastic with different finishes. (I like the aluminum one on my 2020 Platinum) Time will tell how these will hold up with various road conditions. New placement of the head lamps and fog lamps and new rear lift gate treatment. The break lights now wrap around into the tail gate, see photos. Again, all plastic, my 2020 has aluminum trim across the top of the tail gate.
Driving Experience: I drove the Platinum 3.0-liter rear wheel drive on a course of highway and back paved roads. It accelerated very smooth and felt very tight with a quiet interior. We had a chance to dive a 4WD Explorer off the paved roads on a short dirt/grass course, it seemed to handle well, but it wasn’t a very challenging course. Later in the day we drove on the highway with BlueCruise, it performed well. Final drive was on a ST on a slalom course with cones at speed.
Overall impressions the 2025 Explorer is a pleasant refresh of the model, the biggest change is the digital changes to the driver interface. Thanks to Ford Motor Company and their team for the chance to participate in the Media drive experience.
