'21 No Longer Included Items or Missing?

Hi Everyone, a few items I think should be included on my 21 Limited according to the "2021 Explorer Models and Packages" brochure or with the case of an owner's manual pouch should still be included. Feedback on what or if I'm missing and if the factory or dealers offered any free replacements or remedies based on your experiences is appreciated. My build date is March '21 and I mention this because "running changes" do occur during a model year production.

1. No owner's manual zip pouch to contain the different books. The salesman who I know well, says the last month or so vehicles have been delivered without them. I called Ford Customer Service but they are not really Ford and only a Call Center who forwards messages. Did your '21 have a zip pouch for the manual and books?

My local Ford parts counter guys have given me those pouches free of charge 3 times now. I bought the fourth one on ebay for like $11.

I really like the soft close doors on my 20 Reserve II. Part of the convenience package I think. Don’t have to slam the doors and never have to reopen and close to make sure they are latched. I’ll have to check my Sync display for the Temp readings for the interior. Haven’t noticed them missing but since I use the lower ones i haven’t really noticed.
As far as the temp displays, I stand corrected. When driving yesterday I did see the temperature in the left and right upper corners of the screen.
When I initially checked, I did not have the engine running. I just turned the display ON via the radio ON/OFF button and the displays were not there.

Peter.

Good to know. My sales guy is checking on this and the cargo net.

It appears the cargo net should be an included item as it is mentioned in the Owner's Manual along with instructions as to its use.

Is this for both Explorer and Aviator? My 20 Aviator didn’t have one.

It's not mentioned in the Manual and mine didn't have one either. I do, however. have one I forgot to return with the previous 2014 MKT. It is still in the original plastic wrapping. ;)

It's in the manual that is linked in the Fordpass App. 3/5/21 Manual, search for "Cargo Net" and it comes up.

It may be there Rick, but it is not in the Aviator Owner's Manual 3rd print that I have downloaded. There are 53 references to "cargo" but none include a cargo net.

A few updates:

I can't get a definitive answer on whether the cargo net is included with the Explorer. Some say it is, others say only if the "Cargo Management" option is selected.

Same with the Owner's Manual Pouch.

Confirmed: the glove box light was deleted for '21 and mentioned on a 11/20 sales info sheet.

My service rep has not heard of any missing rear air deflectors or strut tower insulators. I was a little surprised based on the number of forum posts.

The soft close doors are one feature we really like as well. Looking to replace the '20 and find it pretty dumb its only available on the black label. The vehicle gets more expensive and loses options... that makes perfect sense.

I don't have the "soft close" doors and not sure I really need that feature although it may be nice to have. If the door isn't completely closed, you won't be able to lock them using the lock feature on the Securicode pad. I've only had it happen a couple times and I just open and close the door again. Cheaper than adding that option packge.:) My 64 Cadillac had a soft close trunk.;)

Then there are us with small kids and it is nice to not have to worry about them getting the door shut in the kid pick up lane.

I also never had a problem shutting manual lift gates but that doesn't mean I do not want automatic ones.

My ‘84 Continental had that also. It also had an auto retracting antenna which was recalled for catching on fire if it got stuck.

Another item missing from the '21 (although maybe it was already missing on the '20?) is the engine cover.

It was...I repeat...was on my 2020 XLT. Just another useless item the vehicle's better off without.

Curious as to why you feel it's useless? Seems like it provides value other than aesthetic, such as noise reduction AND keeping some components underneath safe against direct exposure to water and other elements, not to mention the aesthetic value.

If you don't want yours from your 2020, I'll be happy to take off your hands 🙂.

If it’s simply a plastic cover, and not like a functional fan shroud, I remove the plastic covers off all my engines.

Not plastic. Foam. Just gets in the way, and does nothing for sound attenuation.

It provides none of those things you mentioned. You'd have to see it installed to understand how useless it really is.
Selling and shipping would be more bother than it's worth...so...I'll hang unto it for the day she gets sold. Apparently it'll add "feature rich value" in someone's estimation. lol.
