22" chrome wheels

guys, Im gunna have to inform you of something about sidewalls on 40 series tires and lower, those are the hardest sidewalls next to a 6 ply trailer tire. I had a set of 35 on some 18s on a honda crx, and I autocrossed with it, and not once, I repeat not once did I either blow a sidewall, or scrape the rim around a turn like you all think you would, so Im just throwin in my 2 cents on low pro tires..

except that was on a 10lb tin can:D The Explorer is about 4500lbs of pure steel, take a turn on one of those rims and be prepared to crack or scrape them - the sidewall won't be stiff enough to protect the rim or cushion it. My friend just cracked one of his rims on his Escalade, 23" Giovanna Attacks, and he doesn't have rubberband tires and only hit a minor bump that wouldn't upset 18's. Thats why I'm not into the bling bling thing, for one his truck was harsh and uncomfortble with 23's, slowed him down big time, gave the truck funny handling and ride motions b/c of the extra unsprung weight, and it affected his mileage (not great anyway consdiering its awd with a 6.0 V8).

It's just kinda stupid for rubberband tires on an SUV, you have to have some cushion with the weight unless you wanna keep messing up rims.

Get the 5.5 SL and you'll be able to roll these in no time!

Is there a tire on there? That looks like a retread.

in best "screaming mother" voice...... "Hartman!?..........Hartman!!!.... Have you been playing with the photoshop again?!

The pic of the 30 inch rims are REAL, the pic is straight from SEMA. Rick or Matt Adams could probably back me up, more than likely they saw them there.

Yup... sad, but true...

Where the hell do you get a tire mounting machine that will handle 30" rims??

air filled tires on those? they're probably solid rubber and all you do is glue on new ones. one good thing: you wouldnt have to balence 1/2 thick tires.

I'm going to make an assumption that 30 inch rims are not suitable for daily driving. I'm interested to know who made that tire....

i doubt youd ever drive a car with 30 rims though, the ride would be unbearable. It sounds like if they ever made 30's they would be for trailer queens

I can make a tire like that. I can take my stock tires and cut the sidewall off.

hartman, how did you get that picture of your ex with those big wheels on it. is there anyway that you could show me a pic of my ex with 20's or 22's to see what it would look like?

I just enlarged my wheels in Photoshop. Show me a pic of your Ex and I might be able to do it, depending on the angle.

yea, i figured someone had made 30's, but for some reason that picture you posted looks 'shopped.

Okay, I just wanted to add my opinion on this topic. Honestly, I couldn't imagine 22" wheels on an explorer, unless you really want that bling-bling look and you don't mind really small tires. I just got some 20's for mine, despite the different tire shops telling me "I wouldn't get 20's, you will hate the ride and you will think it is too rough". Well, all of that was not true at all. My new wheels ride just the same as my stock ones, I don't notice any difference in roughness. I DO notice a difference in handling though, I now have 9" wide wheels and 275 series tires, whereas my stockers were 7" wide with 235 series tires, so my handling is very much improved! So far, no complaints about my 20's, I wasn't going for the bling-bling look either, thats why I didn't get chrome, and in the end I think I found just what I was looking for.

When I put my 17's on I didnt notice a difference except for better handling but yesterday I just switched back to my stock ones for the winter and I definately noticed a difference in ride quality. It takes bumps better and rides smoother but handling and grip are like garbage.
